Enchanting & Anvils
How enchanting and anvils work in Nytheria: Easy Magic rerolls, Easy Anvils without Too Expensive, moving enchantments onto books, books that stack to 16, and the enchantment tools around them.
Both the enchanting table and the anvil are replaced in Nytheria, and several smaller mods change what enchantments can do. This page is part of Combat & Gear and explains the new rules, the numbers the pack sets and how to use the tools for your weapons and armor.
How it works#
Two Fuzs mods rebuild the basics.
Easy Magic replaces the enchanting table: the vanilla table is disabled, and tables that generate in the world are converted. Your item stays in the table, every possible enchantment is shown to you, and you can reroll the offers for experience points instead of a new item.
Easy Anvils replaces the anvil: there is no "Too Expensive" limit, renames are free, and the penalty that grows with every repair is capped.
Two mods made for Nytheria sit around them.
Obscura's Anvil Disenchanting moves enchantments from an item onto a book, and
Stackable Enchanted Books lets identical books stack to 16.
Smaller helpers fill in the gaps:
Merge Enchantments combines enchantments that normally exclude each other. Combining is on and its blacklist is empty.
Toggle Enchantments switches single enchantments on an item off and on. Curses cannot be toggled.
No Enchantment Cap Level removes the 255 level cap on enchantments.
Enchantment Descriptions adds an effect text to every enchantment tooltip.
EMI Enchanting adds EMI pages that show where to get an enchantment, what it applies to and what it excludes.
Random Enchant Fix fixes loot tables that apply enchantments they should not.
Numbers and settings in Nytheria#
Enchanting table (Easy Magic)#
| Setting | Value | What it means for you |
|---|---|---|
| Maximum enchanting power | 15 | The highest power the table uses |
| Rerolls | On | You can reroll the offered enchantments |
| Reroll cost | 5 XP points and 1 lapis | Rerolling takes experience points, not levels |
| Enchantment hint | All | The table shows every enchantment, not a single hint |
| Bookshelves | Lenient | Torches and carpet between shelf and table do not block them |
| Chiseled bookshelves | Count only when facing the table | A chiseled shelf must face the table to give power |
Anvil (Easy Anvils)#
| Setting | Value | What it means for you |
|---|---|---|
| "Too Expensive" limit | None | No combination is refused for cost |
| Renaming | Free for all items | Naming never costs levels |
| Book costs | Halved | Combining with books is cheaper |
| Rename and repair costs | Fixed | The cost does not climb with each use |
| Prior-work penalty | Limited, maximum increase 4 | The penalty that grows with each repair is capped |
| Books and penalties | Penalty-free for enchants on books | Enchanting with books adds no prior-work penalty |
| Anvil break chance | 5 % per use | Vanilla is 12 % |
| Repair with matching material | 25 % durability per unit, cost 1 | Use the item's own material |
| Repair with another item | +12 % durability, cost 2 | Use a different item as the repair material |
Renames and repairs also carry no prior-work penalty, and risk-free anvil renaming is on. Name tags can be edited without an anvil, a name tag has a crafting recipe, formatting codes work in names, and name tags do not drop from mobs.
Books and moving enchantments#
| Setting | Value | What it means for you |
|---|---|---|
| Disenchanting | Item plus book in an anvil | Enchantments move onto the book and the item comes back |
| Disenchanting cost | Factor 1.0, no fixed cost | The experience cost is not scaled or flattened |
| Stackable book size | 16 | Identical books stack to 16 |
| Toggle curses | Off | Curses stay on the item |
"Identical" means the same enchantments, levels, repair cost, name and components. The anvil and the grindstone take one book from a stack per operation. Servers must run the same stack size as every client.
Step by step#
Enchant an item#
- Place the item in the Easy Magic table. It stays in the table while you choose.
- Read the offers. Every enchantment is listed, and hovering shows an effect text from Enchantment Descriptions.
- Pick an offer, or pay 5 XP points and 1 lapis to reroll until you like the list.
- Build up bookshelves toward power 15. Chiseled bookshelves must face the table.
Combine, repair and rename#
- Put two items or an item and a book in an Easy Anvils anvil. Costs are halved for books, and the anvil can break 5 % of the time.
- Repair by adding the item's own material (25 % per unit) or another item (12 %).
- Rename for free. Use a name tag if you prefer, since it can be edited without an anvil.
Move enchantments onto a book#
Put an enchanted item and a book into the anvil. The enchantments move onto the book and the item comes back. Identical books stack to 16, so a stack of them takes one slot.
Toggle or merge#
With Toggle Enchantments, press R to open its menu. R is shared with the Reach-around toggle and Reload Shaders, so holding it opens the Polybind wheel and you release on "Open Menu". With Merge Enchantments, combine items normally and enchantments that normally exclude each other can sit together.
Tips#
- Keep spare lapis. A reroll costs 1 lapis and 5 XP points each time.
- Do not worry about "Too Expensive". It does not exist here, so a heavily worked item stays usable.
- Use books for enchantments. Book costs are halved, and enchantments on books add no prior-work penalty.
- Stack your books. Sixteen identical books take one slot, which keeps a shelf of storage small.
- Open the EMI page of an enchantment to see what it applies to and which ones it excludes.
In the quest book#
Bells in the Mist in Part 3, The Road, asks you to find a librarian's lectern with an enchanted book. The Traveller's and Lamplighter's Caches can roll an enchanted book, and the Deep Road Cache can roll bottles o' enchanting. See Rewards, Loot Caches & Choice Kits.
