Farming & Cooking
Farming, cooking, baking, wine, tea and animals in Nytheria - two linked kitchen systems, the Hunger Dial that slows hunger, farming helpers and where to start.
Nytheria has two kitchen systems that work together, a long list of crops and drinks, and a hunger setting that is gentler than vanilla. This page is the hub for food in the pack. It explains how the parts connect and sends you to Cooking, Meals & Drinks for recipes and to Fishing with Tide for the fishing overhaul.
Overview#
The pack runs two overlapping kitchens on purpose.
Farmer's Delight Refabricated brings the cooking pot, cutting board, skillet and stove. The [Let's Do] family, led by
[Let's Do] Farm & Charm, brings its own cooking pot, pan, stove, roaster, crafting bowl and mincer. Bakery, Candlelight, Beachparty, Vinery, HerbalBrews, Meadow and WilderNature all sit on top of Farm & Charm.
The two systems are linked. A small compatibility mod,
[Let's Do Addon] Compat, is built to convert Farmer's Delight pot recipes so that the Farm & Charm pot understands them, and shared tags let ingredients such as lettuce count in both. Heat sources are shared too: Candlelight stoves and Meadow's tiled stoves also heat a Farmer's Delight cooking pot, and fish from Tide can be cut into slices on the Farmer's Delight cutting board.
Drinks form their own chain. Vinery wines feed Candlelight's table drinks, HerbalBrews makes teas and coffee, Beachparty mixes cocktails, and Meadow turns milk into cheese. Fishing is replaced by the Tide mod, and the Hunger Dial slows how fast you get hungry.
The mods behind it#
A farming and cooking expansion with new crops, a knife and cutting board, cooking pot, skillet, stove, rich soil and many hearty meals.
A farming and cooking expansion with new crops, wild crops, farm animals' feed and a set of kitchen stations for cooking, roasting, baking and mincing.
Let's Do Bakery: bake breads, cakes, cupcakes, cookies, tarts and jams, and display them in a bakery shop.
Adds grapes, apple and cherry trees, and a full winemaking chain from grape juice to aged wine.
Adds tea plants, herbs and coffee, plus kettles and a brewing cauldron for teas, coffee and herbal flasks with their own effects.
Let's Do Candlelight: fine-dining dishes, cooking pots and pans, dining furniture, table settings and typewriters for letters.
Let's Do Meadow: cheese making, alpine animals and villagers, new structures in meadow biomes, and a rustic pine building set.
Adds beach-themed decoration and drinks, from sandcastles to beach furniture and cocktails, for building a relaxed seaside spot.
Adds new wildlife such as squirrels and deer, plus a bounty board with challenges and rewards.
Turns fishing into a hobby: dozens of new fish, a fishing minigame, custom rods, bait, lava fishing, crates and a fishing journal.
Navrelis' hunger mod: one multiplier scales all food exhaustion. Nytheria ships it at 0.65, so hunger drains 35 % slower.

Helpers that make farming easier are covered below.
Autochef's Delight lets a Farmer's Delight pot cook several batches at once.
Where to start#
Build a Farmer's Delight Cooking Pot, which needs a wooden shovel, a water bucket, bricks and iron, or the Farm & Charm pot, which is cheaper: iron and a wooden shovel. Then plant tomatoes, rice, cabbage and onions from Farmer's Delight, and barley, oats, corn, lettuce and strawberries from Farm & Charm. After that, specialise: a bakery (Caking Station), a vineyard (Grapevine Pot and Fermentation Barrel), tea (Tea Kettle), cheese (Cheese Press), a bar (Palm Bar) or fishing (Angling Table).
The early game needs only a few things: the pot, a cutting board with a knife, a campfire or stove, and seeds. Cooking, Meals & Drinks lists the recipes, food values and stations.
The Hunger Dial#
Nytheria's own mod,
Hunger Dial, multiplies all food exhaustion by 0.65. Hunger drains at 65 % of the vanilla speed, which is 35 % slower. A food bar therefore lasts about 54 % longer than in vanilla, not 35 % longer. Food values are not changed, so a loaf of bread feeds you exactly as much as before; you just need to eat less often.
Every vanilla source of exhaustion is scaled once: sprinting, jumping, swimming, mining, attacking, taking damage and the Hunger effect. Natural health regeneration is as fast as vanilla, but its food cost is also 35 % lower. Operators can change the value with /hungerdial set, which needs permission level 2.
An example from the mod's own numbers: 100 metres of sprinting costs 2.5 points of hunger in vanilla but about 1.6 with the Dial. After a death, the Player Difficulty penalty raises your exhaustion by 50 % for a few minutes, so in that time sprinting and fighting cost about as much as in vanilla. See Difficulty & Player Scaling for the penalty.
| Hunger Dial fact | Value |
|---|---|
Multiplier (exhaustionMultiplier) | 0.65 (allowed range 0.0 to 10.0) |
| Hunger drain | 65 % of vanilla, so 35 % slower |
| One food bar lasts | about 54 % longer |
| Food values and the exhaustion cap | not changed |
| Health regeneration speed | not changed; its food cost is 35 % lower |
| Where it runs | on the server or in singleplayer; clients do not need it |
| Command | /hungerdial get, set <0.0-10.0>, reload (operators, level 2) |
Bakery's Vitality effect and the Farm & Charm and Candlelight food effects work on their own and are not scaled by the Dial. Mods that set the exhaustion value directly, instead of adding to it, are not scaled either.
Farming#
Farming works as in vanilla, with a few helpers.
| Helper | What it does in Nytheria |
|---|---|
| Rich Soil (Farmer's Delight) | +20 % chance of an extra growth tick |
| Fertilized soil (Farm & Charm) | works within 5 blocks |
| Sprinkler (Farm & Charm) | waters crops within 8 blocks |
| Scarecrow (Farm & Charm) | helps growth within 8 blocks, every 25 seconds |
| Rain (Farm & Charm) | rain growth is on and speeds up growth by 50 % |
| right-click a ripe crop to harvest and replant it; a hoe is required | |
| bone meal works on 14 more targets, such as sugar cane, vines, cactus, nether wart and mycelium | |
| farmer villagers replant crops and pick a new crop when they cannot replant |
Right Click Harvest also costs a small amount of hunger per harvest, and it must be installed on the server. Farmer's Delight crops are rice, tomatoes, cabbages and onions; Farm & Charm adds barley, oats, corn, lettuce, onions, strawberries and tomatoes. Farmer's Delight tomatoes can be hung on a rope, and the pack leaves rope reeling and tomato-vine climbing on.
Farm & Charm adds a few more numbers: some crops can grow as a big crop with a 3 % chance, and wild crops drop their produce 60 % of the time. Farmer's Delight sets the cutting board fortune bonus to 0.1, and its crop crates, village compost heaps and farm crops in villages are all switched on.
What bone meal can do#
Universal Bone Meal turns on all 14 of its extra targets in the pack. Bone meal then works on fruit stems, lily pads, nether wart, podzol, vines, chorus plants, small flowers, corals, spore blossoms, sugar cane, mycelium, dirt, cactus and dead bushes. Chorus plants are found within a 48-block search, and corals grow only in warm oceans and need space.
Animals and herds#
Vanilla breeding still works, and the mods add more.
- Farm & Charm has a Chicken Coop that holds 3 chickens and up to 9 eggs. Feeding Troughs and Water Troughs draw animals from up to 8 blocks away, and the Pet Bowl is searched within 16 blocks. Chicken Feed, Horse Fodder, Dog Food and Cat Food are craftable.
- Meadow adds Highland Cattle and Water Buffalo, bred with wheat. Highland Cattle also come in Umbra and Warped variants. Milk them with the Wooden Bucket to make seven kinds of cheese.
- WilderNature adds 16 wild animals, such as deer, boar, bison and turkey, with meat that can be cooked.
Ecologics adds the Coconut Crab, the Penguin and the Squirrel. It has no camel in this pack, even though some mod pages mention one. Breeding and taming details are on Animals, Pets & Mounts.
According to the breeding data that Just Enough Breeding shows, these are the foods that matter most:
| Animal | Bred with |
|---|---|
| Highland Cattle, Water Buffalo | wheat |
| Bison, Cassowary, Minisheep, Penguin (WilderNature) | wheat |
| Deer | short grass |
| Boar | beef, chicken, beetroot, sweet berries, potato, cooked cod or salmon, carrot |
| Turkey | seeds and bread |
| Pelican | raw or cooked cod and salmon, pufferfish |
| Hedgehog | rotten flesh |
Food from other mods#
Not all food comes from the kitchen mods. Dimension and world mods add their own berries, stews and meats, and these are worth eating on the road. The counts below are a name-based search of item names, so treat each one as "at least".
| Source | Food-like items (at least) | Examples |
|---|---|---|
| Eternal Starlight | 27 | Jinglestem Sandwich, Lunar Berries, Bouldershroom Stew, Abyssal Fruit |
| The Twilight Forest | 19 | Beef Jerky, Berry Medley, Meef Steak, Venison Steak |
| AdventureZ | 14 | Mammoth Meat, Iguana Meat, Chorus Fruit on a Stick |
| Oh The Biomes We've Gone | 13 | Allium Oddion Soup, Aloe Vera Juice, Blueberry Pie |
| Better End Remastered | 13 | Blossom Berry, Blossom Berry Jelly, Cave Pumpkin Pie |
| Clutter | 12 | Cooked Venison, Cooked Echofin |
| Astral Dimension | 7 | Dragon Fruit, Berry of Saturation, Carrot Ginger Soup |
| The Aether | 7 | Blue Berry, Enchanted Berry, Candy Cane, Ginger Bread Man |
| Ecologics | 3 | Crab Meat, Tropical Stew, Cooked Prickly Pear |
The Astral Dimension runs through
Sporran, the translation layer that loads some NeoForge mods; see Astral Dimension & Setback for that realm.
Villagers and trades#
Farmer and wandering-trader trades from Farmer's Delight are on. Vinery adds a Winemaker villager profession with five trade levels, Meadow adds Cheesemaker and Hermit, and Beachparty adds the Sandy Merchant. A Candlelight dinner guest gives a 10 % trade discount for one day. Smarter Farmers makes farmer villagers more useful.
How it fits together#
A simple route through the food systems:
- Early: Farmer's Delight pot, board and skillet; the Farm & Charm pot and crafting bowl for dough; Right Click Harvest and Universal Bone Meal for faster farming; AppleSkin to read food values.
- Mid: the Mincer, silos, sprinklers and scarecrows; the bakery chain from flour through dough and the stove to the Caking Station; Meadow cheese; Vinery wine; and Candlelight dinner bonuses.
- Late: HerbalBrews buffs for the group, Candlelight's Well Served and Refreshed effects, Tide rods up to Netherite, the Hook of the Depths for void fishing, and Autochef's stacked cooking.
This is a route, not a rule. The quest book follows the same order loosely but never forces it.
In the quest book#
Part 2 of the quest book, Hearth and Home, has five chapters about food and the home: A Roof and a Pot, The Long Table, Fields and Fences, Still Water and Shelves and Signposts. They all open once you finish Under the Spruce in Part 1, nearly all their quests are optional, and each chapter pays a choice kit, such as the Cook's Bundle (16 bread, 2 apple pies or 8 organic compost), the Farmer's Bundle or the Fisher's Bundle.
