The End is reached through a stronghold portal that you fill with End Remastered eyes, because Vanilla Eyes of Ender cannot be used. The dimension itself is a BetterX End with a rebuilt main island, a 600 HP dragon and outer islands from Better End Remastered and Nullscape. It belongs to the Dimensions overview, and three quest chapters cover it.

Getting there#

You need a stronghold, 12 eyes and a way to find them. The steps are:

  1. Collect eyes. End Remastered has 16 eye types, and the portal accepts any 12 of them. Some come from chests (the Old Eye from desert temples, for example), some from mobs, some from crafting, trading or enchanting. The End Portal & the 16 Eyes lists every source.
  2. Find a stronghold. The quest The Stair in the Floor has you follow a thrown eye to one. A thrown End Remastered eye breaks 10 % of the time, and Vanilla Eyes of Ender can neither be used nor thrown.
  3. Fill the frame. The portal room holds 12 End portal frame blocks. They never spawn pre-filled, so you place every eye yourself. You can also take a placed eye back out.
  4. Step in. The portal opens when all 12 frames hold an eye. The type does not matter.

Where the eyes come from#

The sources fall into five groups. The End Portal & the 16 Eyes has all 16 with their chances.

  • Chests: the Old Eye (desert temples, 15 %), Rogue Eye (jungle temples, 40 %), Nether Eye (Nether fortresses, 30 %), Cold Eye (igloo cellars, 70 %), Black Eye (buried treasure, 30 %), Lost Eye (abandoned mineshafts, 20 %), Cursed Eye (bastion treasure rooms, 70 %) and Corrupted Eye (pillager outposts, 30 %).
  • Mobs: the Wither Eye from the Wither, the Guardian Eye from an Elder Guardian (35 %) and the Magical Eye from an Evoker (5 %) or a woodland mansion chest (10 %).
  • Crafting: the Exotic Eye, the Undead Eye (from an Undead Soul dropped by skeleton horses) and the Witch Eye (from a Witch Pupil plus an Eye of Ender).
  • Trading: the Evil Eye, from a master-level cleric or a wandering trader for a rabbit's foot and 6 to 9 emeralds.
  • Enchanting: the Cryptic Eye, with about a 1 in 120 chance per enchant.

Way back#

The main island has an exit portal. Better End also builds an "eternal portal" in the outer End, which uses an Eternal Crystal to lead back to the Overworld. The quests The Portal That Waits and Eternal Light in Past the Last Island cover it.

How the End is built#

The End uses the BetterX generator from BetterEnd: Remastered. It keeps a central island, an obsidian platform and the pillars, and it keeps the portal and the dragon fight on. The outer End has three island layers. Big islands use a distance of 300, a scale of 200 and a coverage of 0.5, medium islands use 150 and 100, and small islands use 60 and 50.

Nullscape adds its own terrain, a few biomes, rifts and a dragon skeleton, and it moves End cities to a spacing of 26 and a separation of 18 (Vanilla uses 20 and 11). YUNG's Better End Island (Fabric) rebuilds the main island with a central bell tower.

What you find#

Biomes#

The End has 33 biomes that can generate: 5 from Vanilla and 28 from mods. Better End Remastered supplies 25, of which 19 are surface biomes and 6 are cave biomes, and Nullscape supplies 3. Quest tasks name several: the fog mushroomland, the megalake, the amber land, chorus and shadow forests, crystal mountains, dragon graveyards and the void barrens.

Structures#

A world can place 74 structures in the End. The largest groups are MES - Moog's End Structures (25), AdoraBuild: Structures (16), Repurposed Structures (Fabric) (6), Medieval Buildings [End Edition] (5) and Better End (8). The Dungeons and Taverns End castle also appears. The pack's data removes the End castle's pre-filled portal variant, so only the empty portal remains. The Repurposed Structures End stronghold is switched off.

Materials#

Better End adds Thallasium, amber, ender ore and dragon bone ores. The outer End quests also ask for Terminite and Aeternium, with their anvils, and a hammer.

Creatures and bosses#

Better End adds six creatures: Cubozoa, Dragonfly, End Fish, End Slime, Shadow Walker and Silk Moth. Endermen spawn in every Better End biome that has a spawner list, which is 18 of the 25. Cataclysm adds the Ender Golem and Endermaptera, AdventureZ the Ender Whale and Enderwarthog, Clutter the Echofin on the End highlands and Tide End fish.

The Obsidilith comes from Bosses of Mass Destruction. The Ender Guardian and Ender Golem come from L_Ender's Cataclysm, which runs through Sporran. AdventureZ supplies The Eye, and Dungeons and Taverns the End Castle bosses. The Obsidilith, the Ender Dragon and The Eye are covered by Boss Ultimatum. Full fights are on The Ender Dragon, Bosses of Mass Destruction, L_Ender's Cataclysm Bosses and Other Bosses & Mini-Bosses.

The Ender Dragon's health is set to 600 by the pack's data, three times the Vanilla 200. Every kill drops a Dragon Egg and Dragon Scales, with a minimum of 3 scales and 2 more per extra player. Boss Ultimatum makes the dragon heal a flat 120 HP for each further player it kills, from its second player kill on, and Player Difficulty does not scale it.

Dangers and what to bring#

Neither beds nor respawn anchors work in the End, so a death sends you back to a spawn point in another dimension. The quest reward What to Carry Out offers a choice of 16 ender pearls, 64 scaffolding or eight smoked hams when you enter. A grave still forms if you fall into the void. It sits on an end stone block and is never placed below Y 3. Wild waystones generate in the End, so you can bring one home.

The End Castle has three trial-spawner bosses, and Cataclysm's Ender Guardian and Ender Golem guard the Ruined Citadel. The Obsidilith waits in the outer End. Plan for flying: the chapter The Far Shore ends with Wings, which asks for elytra and 10,000 blocks flown.

In the quest book#

Part 8, The Far Shore, has three chapters and 64 quests, all unlocked by Nine Days, Wearing It from Below the Bedrock. Sixteen Lanterns (21 quests) is the eye hunt, with one quest per eye. The Far Shore (19 quests) takes you into the End and past the dragon, then to End structures, a gateway, an End city and elytra. Past the Last Island (24 quests) covers the outer End. Its last quest, Stores for the Dark, opens Part 9.

The three chapters pay 28, 46 and 63 XP levels in total, in the order above, and 2, 1 and 3 embers. The dragon quest pays an Ashfall Cache roll and 6 levels. An optional quest asks you to kill the dragon a second time with four end crystals. See Rewards, Loot Caches & Choice Kits for the caches.
