The Overworld is the dimension you start in, and it is the hub of the pack: strongholds, Ancient Cities, Portal Ruins and ordinary pools of water lead to the other eight dimensions. Its terrain is not plain Vanilla and it is not BetterX either. Terralith and Oh The Biomes We've Gone supply most of the new biomes. This page belongs to the Dimensions hub.

Getting there#

You spawn in the Overworld, so there is no portal to build. You return here through the portal of the dimension you are in. The Overworld is also where you look for the ingredients of other portals: End portals sit in strongholds, the Otherside needs Reinforced Deepslate and the Heart of the Deep that Wardens drop, Eternal Starlight starts at Portal Ruins, and the Twilight Forest only needs a pool of water with plants and a diamond.

How the world is built#

The Overworld uses the Vanilla noise generator with a biome source from Lithostitched. That source injects Terralith's biomes into the Vanilla biome list. The pack does not use the BetterX generator here. BetterX is forced as the world type for the Nether and End, and for the world-type screen, but betterx_overworld is off.

Terralith also changes the terrain itself. It lowers the vertical noise size from 2 to 1, adds a new noise router and makes canyon carving rarer (probability 0.01 down to 0.003). It adjusts 35 Vanilla biomes as well. TerraBlender (Fabric) sets the Overworld region size to 3, and Vanilla keeps a region weight of 10.

What you find#

Biomes#

The Overworld has 214 biomes that can generate in a fresh world: 53 from Vanilla and 161 from mods. The biome counts follow the rule "biomes that can generate in a fresh world of this pack".

SourceBiomesWhat it adds
Terralith95New land biomes, 11 cave biomes and 4 seasonal sky-island biomes
Oh The Biomes We've Gone54A second biome set; one of its 55 biomes, Eroded Borealis, is switched off
Climate Rivers3Cold, lukewarm and warm river variants
Galosphere3Crystal canyons, lichen caves, pink salt caves
YUNG's Cave Biomes (Fabric)2Frosted caves, lost caves
Clutter2Giant redwood forest, lupine fields
Vanilla Backport2Pale Garden, sulfur caves

Geophilic overhauls 29 Vanilla biomes with rocks and features, but adds no new biome ids. The rest of the numbers, and the Nether and End, are on the Biomes page.

Underground#

Underground, YUNG's Better Caves (Fabric) replaces the cave carvers. Terralith's setting vanilla_stone_gen is off, so granite, diorite and andesite blobs no longer appear underground. Extra ores come from several mods: Terralith adds extra coal in fungal caves, Let's Do Meadow adds limestone, salt and alpine ores, Clutter adds silver and sulphur, Galosphere adds palladium and Dusty Decorations adds marine fossils. Artifacts Remastered also places underground campsites, 40 attempts per chunk between Y -60 and Y 40, with a mimic chance of 0.3. See Caves, Ores & the Underground.

Structures#

A world of this pack can place 668 structures in the Overworld. Dozens of structure mods contribute, and Terralith adds mage towers and fortified villages of its own. Most come from a few big ones: MVS - Moog's Voyager Structures (127 here), Dungeons and Taverns (76), Repurposed Structures (Fabric) (56), Towns and Towers (55) and AdoraBuild: Structures (74). Spacing is normal: no pack setting changes how often structures appear, except that woodland mansions are twice as rare.

The pack turns off Vanilla mineshafts, desert temples, jungle temples, witch huts, ocean monuments and dungeon monster rooms in favour of YUNG's versions. It also switches off Repurposed Structures' 11 Overworld outposts and 7 of its 11 Overworld villages, plus three Dungeons and Taverns villages. Vanilla villages stay, along with pillager outposts, Ancient Cities, trial chambers, trail ruins, igloos, shipwrecks and ruined portals, several of them re-skinned by Towns and Towers or Dungeons and Taverns. Stronghold End portal frames never come pre-filled, which fits the End Remastered eye rule. The full list is on Structures & Dungeons.

Creatures and bosses#

The Overworld is where most of the pack's regular creatures live. Notable groups are Creeper Overhaul's 16 biome-specific creepers, whose explosions do break blocks, [Let's Do] WilderNature's 16 animals, Clutter's 14, Tide 2's 102 fish and the 11 illagers of Illager Invasion. Both Goblin Traders spawn here, the Goblin Trader between Y -64 and Y 50 and the Vein Goblin Trader between Y 0 and Y 128. Vanilla Backport adds Creakings in the Pale Garden. More detail is on Creatures of the Overworld.

Bosses of the Overworld, all meant for the surface or just below it:

The Night Lich and Void Blossom come from Bosses of Mass Destruction. The Harbinger, the Leviathan, the Ancient Remnant, Maledictus and Scylla come from L_Ender's Cataclysm, which runs through Sporran. The HP of the Cataclysm bosses and the Invoker is the code default, because every Cataclysm health multiplier in the pack is 1.0. The Wither can be summoned anywhere and the Warden waits in Ancient Cities. Bosses has the full tables.

Dangers and what to bring#

Plan for the deep first. A Warden has 500 HP and lives in Ancient Cities, and the Void Blossom's cave sits under ordinary-looking terrain. Bring a bed, because beds work here, and do not rely on an anchor. If you die, a grave stores your items and XP. In the Overworld the grave sits on a cobblestone block, and a grave is never placed below Y -60. Wild waystones appear about every 25 chunks, so a waystone is rarely far away.

In the quest book#

Most of the early game takes place here. One Leaf, First Fire and The Marked Road (Part 1), the five Hearth and Home chapters (Part 2), Ruins and Rumours and Bells in the Mist (Part 3), and Stone That Remembers and The City That Listens (Part 4) take place largely in the Overworld.
