Mining & Everyday Tools
Fell whole trees with FallingTree, mine veins with FTB Ultimine (32 blocks, 14.4 exhaustion), carry chests with Carry On and use the small helpers that speed up everyday work in Nytheria.
Nytheria adds several tools that turn slow chores into one click: felling a tree, clearing a vein of ore, carrying a chest, or cutting wood parts. This page explains FallingTree, FTB Ultimine, Carry On and the smaller helpers, with the numbers the pack uses. It is for players who gather a lot of wood and stone and want to know why their hunger bar drops so fast.
Overview#
Two mods do most of the gathering.
FallingTree fells a whole tree when you break one log.
FTB Ultimine (Fabric) mines a group of connected blocks at once while you hold a key. FallingTree needs no enchantment, and the pack tunes both mods.
Leaves Be Gone clears leaves quickly,
Carry On lets you carry block entities and some mobs, and
KleeSlabs and
Sawmill help with building materials.
FallingTree#
When you break one log of a tree, the whole tree falls at once. Your tool takes normal durability damage. These are the pack settings:
| Setting | Value | What it means for you |
|---|---|---|
| Break mode | instantaneous | the tree comes down in one go |
| Detection | whole tree | the whole tree is detected |
| Maximum size | 150 logs | trees with more logs are not felled at all |
| Break order | furthest first | logs are broken from the far end |
| Leaves | break with the tree, up to 15 blocks from a log | at least 1 leaf around the tree is required |
| Mixed logs | not allowed | one tree, one wood type |
| Nether wart blocks, mangrove roots | broken too | they count as part of the tree |
| Sneaking | disables it | sneak to break a single log |
| Creative mode | does not fell | |
| Notification | action bar |
FTB Ultimine#
FTB Ultimine (Fabric) breaks a group of connected blocks, such as a vein of ore or a pile of stone, while you hold the Ultimine key and mine one block. The pack uses stricter limits than the mod defaults:
| Setting | Nytheria | Mod default | What it means for you |
|---|---|---|---|
| Maximum blocks | 32 | 64 | blocks mined per use |
| Exhaustion per block | 14.4 | 20.0 | hunger cost for every block |
| Cooldown | 10 ticks (0.5 s) | 0 | wait between uses |
| Tool required | yes | no | you need a tool in hand |
| Stop before breaking | 2 durability left | 0 | the tool is not destroyed |
| XP per block | 0 | - | no extra experience |
Ultimine is very hungry: each block costs 14.4 exhaustion, so eat before a big vein. Stone and ores merge into one group, so one use can follow a vein through the surrounding stone. Right-click features (stripping logs with an axe, tilling with a hoe, digging with a shovel and harvesting crops) are enabled too.
Shapes#
The mod has six shapes: Shapeless, Small Tunnel, Large Tunnel (3x3), Small Square (3x3), Mining Tunnel and Escape Tunnel. Hold the Ultimine key and sneak to open the shape menu. The outline preview shows up to 256 blocks.
The Ultimine key#
The pack sets the Ultimine key to the "world 2" key. On a German keyboard that is the extra key left of Y (the < > | key). A US keyboard does not have this key, so US players must bind Ultimine themselves in Options, Controls. The mod's own default is the grave accent (the backtick key). See Controls for all keys.
Leaves Be Gone and Cut Through#
Leaves Be Gone speeds up leaf decay: leaves vanish after 3 to 15 ticks.
Cut Through lets you hit mobs through tall grass and similar blocks, and it targets only living mobs.
Carry On#
Carry On lets you pick up a block entity (a chest, furnace, barrel) with an empty hand and carry it, or pick up a mob. The Carry key is Left Shift, the same key as Sneak, so both fire.
| Setting | Value |
|---|---|
| Reach | 2.5 blocks |
| Largest mob | 1.5 wide, 2.5 high |
| Pick up any block | no; block entities only |
| Hostile mobs | not allowed |
| Baby animals | not allowed |
| Players | allowed |
| Stacked mobs | up to 10 |
| Slowness while carrying | normal speed multiplier (1.0) for blocks and mobs |
| Heavy blocks and heavy mobs | yes |
The pack blacklists blocks that would cause trouble. You cannot carry any block of Sophisticated Storage (use Packing Tape instead, see Storage & Logistics), Chipped benches, Farmer's Delight blocks, Waystones, FTB Quests blocks, beds, doors, snow layers from Snow! Real Magic, tall plants, cake or portals. Entities that cannot be picked up include the Ender Dragon, ghast, shulker, end crystals, armor stands, item frames, paintings and TNT.
Vanilla chests, barrels, furnaces and the blocks of Obscura's Simple Storage and Kibe are not on the blacklist. Whether carrying a connected network block is wise is not decided.
Wood and stone for building#
- Universal Sawmill: the Saw block cuts wood into parts without a crafting grid. Its recipe is 3 sticks on top, fence, iron ingot, fence in the middle and 3 wooden slabs below (listed as
--- / |E| / ###). It also gives villagers a Carpenter job. - KleeSlabs: in the pack's "always" mode, you break only the half of a double slab you look at.
- Visual Workbench: crafting tables keep and show their items. Vanilla crafting tables are replaced.
- Chipped: the benches turn one block into one variant at no extra cost. See Building & Decoration.
How it fits together#
Wood comes from FallingTree with Leaves Be Gone cleaning up. Stone and ore come from FTB Ultimine, which costs hunger, so carry food (see Farming & Cooking). Cheaper wood parts come from the Universal Sawmill, and slabs from KleeSlabs. Use Carry On for small moves and Packing Tape for Sophisticated Storage.
In the quest book#
No quest in the checked data names FallingTree, FTB Ultimine or Carry On. The chapter Shelves and Signposts touches the building side; see Building & Decoration.
