Combat & Gear
How fighting works in Nytheria: Better Combat swings, Simply Swords weapons, armor tiers, accessories, rebuilt enchanting and anvils, and a personal difficulty that grows with you. Start here for gear.
Combat in Nytheria is built from animated Better Combat swings, a large weapon catalogue from Simply Swords, armor that goes well past netherite, a shared accessory system, rebuilt enchanting and anvils, and a difficulty that is personal to every player. This hub explains how the parts fit together and sends you to the page that holds the detail.
Overview#
The pack does not change a single gear recipe. The only CraftTweaker script is the Angel Ring recipe of Kibe (see Exploration & Travel), the global data packs hold no gear recipes, and Item Obliterator removes only a chunk loader and a coin pouch. Everything you craft, smith or find in this area is what the mods themselves provide.
Fights work in three layers:
- Swings.
Better Combat [Fabric & Forge] replaces the single vanilla hit with an animated swing per weapon type. Swings hit every target in an arc, chain into combos and can be done with two weapons at once. The details are on Weapons & Fighting. - Gear. Armor and accessories decide how much a hit hurts. Armor & Accessories covers the armor sets, the 14 accessory slots and the 64 find-only artifacts.
- Enchantments. The enchanting table and the anvil are both replaced. Enchanting & Anvils explains the new rules, the enchantment tools and the books that stack to 16.
A fourth layer sits on top: how hard the monsters hit you depends on you. The Nytheria mod
Player Difficulty gives every player a multiplier between 1.00x and 2.50x. See Difficulty & Player Scaling.
AttributeFix also lifts the vanilla attribute caps, so armor is no longer capped at 30.

The remaining combat helpers are small:
playerAnimator plays the swing animations,
Polymorph lets you choose a result when several recipes match,
Skeleton AI Fix makes skeletons strafe less and shoot faster up close, and
Thief gives stealing from villages consequences.
Mining Speed Tooltips and
Durability Tooltip put numbers into tool tooltips.
The gear route#
There is no fixed order, and the quest book never forces one, but the mods form a natural ladder. Treat this as a suggestion built from how the recipes connect.
- Iron, gold, diamond. Simply Swords weapons of these materials are crafted at a crafting table. Diamond weapons also have a higher chance in loot chests.
- Netherite. Netherite Simply Swords weapons are smithing upgrades of the diamond version, using a netherite ingot and a netherite upgrade template.
- Runic. A netherite weapon plus a diamond plus a Runic Tablet gives an unidentified runic weapon. Click it to reveal its power.
- Advanced Netherite. Netherite Ingot plus 4 iron ingots makes the first of four new tiers (iron, gold, emerald, diamond). Each tier upgrades the previous one.
- Dragon gear. After the Ender Dragon, Dragon Scales upgrade netherite items into dragon armor, tools and a sword, and turn an anvil into the Dragon Anvil.
- Side branches. Immersive Armors sets, Gilded Netherite, and the gear of the Aether, the Twilight Forest and other dimensions.
Unique Simply Swords weapons cannot be crafted at all. They turn up in chests, with a pity counter that makes sure you eventually find one. See Weapons & Fighting.
Where gear comes from#
Gear reaches you in four ways, and each page of this topic covers one of them in detail.
- Crafting and smithing. Iron, gold and diamond Simply Swords weapons, Immersive Armors sets and the Advanced Netherite chain are all made at a crafting table or smithing table.
- Chest loot. Unique Simply Swords weapons and runic loot come from structure chests, and a pity counter guarantees them eventually. The 64 artifacts come from structure chests, underground campsites, archaeology, mimics and rare mob drops.
- Boss drops. The Ender Dragon drops Dragon Scales, and it can also drop a unique weapon.
- Quest rewards. Reward caches roll netherite items, gems and accessories, and a few chapters ask for finished sets.
Gear from other dimensions#
Several dimension and structure mods bring a full gear line of their own. The list below names the sets so you know where to look. Counts are approximate and were read from the mods' language files.
The Aether: gravitite, neptune, obsidian, phoenix, valkyrie and zanite armor, skyroot, holystone, zanite and gravitite tools, and swords such as the flaming, holy and lightning sword. Gloves, pendants and rings use the Aether's own accessory menu.
The Twilight Forest: ironwood, steeleaf, knightmetal, fiery, arctic and yeti sets, plus partial naga and phantom pieces.
Deeper and Darker: warden and resonarium armor.
Eternal Starlight: deepsilver, glacite, starlit diamond, thermal springstone and unrealium armor.
BetterEnd: Remastered: aeternium, crystalite, terminite and thallasium armor.
BetterNether: Remastered: cincinnasite, flaming ruby and nether ruby gear.
Galosphere (sterling),
Clutter (silver) and
[Let's Do] Meadow (fur) add one set each.
L_Ender's Cataclysm: ignitium and cursium sets, bone reptile and sturdy pieces, and weapons such as the Meat Shredder, Laser Gatling and Cursed Bow. Cataclysm is a NeoForge mod that runs in Nytheria through
Sporran.
The child pages of this hub do not repeat these sets. For the realms that hold them, see Dimensions.
Helpers for fights#
A few small mods make fights easier to read and to plan:
- The
MmmMmmMmmMmm (Target Dummy) shows how much damage a hit does and your damage per second. In the pack its boss mode uses 200 health.
Cut Through lets a swing pass through grass and other transparent blocks to reach a mob.
Immersive Armor HUD shows armor durability next to the hotbar.
Enchantment Descriptions adds a short effect text to every enchantment tooltip.
Random Enchant Fix stops loot tables from applying unwanted enchantments.
Max Health Fix stops max health above 20 from resetting when you log in again.
The shared ability key is H. Every active artifact, the Cataclysm armor abilities, the Twilight Forest actions and the AdventureZ dragon fire breath use it, and holding it opens the Polybind wheel. See Armor & Accessories.
In the quest book#
The quest book asks for gear at several points but never makes one weapon mandatory. These are the places that matter:
- Forge and Gauntlet (Part 5, The Burning Road) ends with a runic weapon forged from a Runic Tablet. Its last quest, A Blade Worth the Trip, is the gate that opens The Sky Above.
- Three Locked Dungeons (Part 6, The Sky Above) asks for a flaming sword and a valkyrie lance from the Aether.
- Below the Bedrock (Part 7, The Listening Dark) ends with the warden upgrade template and a full set of warden armor. Its final quest is the gate to the next part.
- Forge, Garden and Frost (Part 9, The Stars) leads to Starlight gear, including a full unrealium set.
Reward caches carry gear as well. The Deep Road Cache can roll a netherite upgrade template, a runefused gem and Night Vision Goggles. The Ashfall Cache can roll netherite ingots, a sterling helmet and a runefused gem. See Rewards, Loot Caches & Choice Kits.
