Controls
Default keys of Nytheria on a fresh install: the shared H ability key, L for the journal, the Polybind radial wheels, and the keys of mining, combat, map, voice chat and dimension gear.
Nytheria ships its own key defaults, and a key that several mods want opens a radial wheel instead of dropping one of them. This page lists the keys as the pack sets them on a fresh install, so you can find any action and the key behind it. It is the reference for the Quality-of-Life Mods page, which describes what the helper mods do.
If you changed a key yourself, your own choice stays. The pack only applies its value to keys you never touched, and a later pack update only reaches keys that are still untouched.
How to read this page#
The tables give the default key, the action and the mod. None means the action exists but has no key; bind one in Options > Controls > Key Binds if you want it.
Controlling adds a search field to that screen, so you can type an action or a key instead of scrolling. Mod settings screens open through
Mod Menu.
Key names follow the American layout. If your keyboard differs, see Keyboard layouts near the end.
The keys you need first#

| M | World map | |
| N | New waypoint; waypoint screen (wheel) | |

Polybind wheels#
Minecraft lets only one action win a key, so when two mods want the same key one of them stops working.
Polybind removes that limit. Every key that carries two or more actions is in one of three modes, and the pack default is the wheel.
- Hold the key for a moment (the wheel opens after 180 milliseconds).
- Move the mouse to the action you want and release the key. Only that action fires.
- A quick tap from now on repeats your last pick without showing the wheel. A key you never picked on opens the wheel straight away.
A wheel shows up to eight segments per page. Scroll to change the page, press a number key from 1 to 8 to pick a segment, and press Esc or the right mouse button to cancel. Polybind remembers your pick for each key.
| Mode | What happens |
|---|---|
| Wheel | The behaviour above. This is the pack default |
| All fire | Every action on the key fires once at the same time |
| Vanilla | Polybind leaves the key alone and the usual single-winner rule applies |
A wheel key behaves like "all fire" whenever no wheel can be shown: a screen is open, you are not in a world, or fewer than two actions are left on the key. Keys that carry a hold action never open a wheel by themselves. In the pack these are attack, use, the four walking keys, jump, sneak and sprint, so Space, Left Shift and Left Ctrl fire both of their actions together.
To change a mode, or to untick an action you do not want on a wheel, open the Polybind... button in the Key Binds screen, type /polybind, or bind the "Open Polybind" key (it has no key by default). The screen lists every shared key.
The H ability key#
H is the shared ability key of the pack. Sixteen actions sit on it, and it opens the Polybind wheel on hold. Tap it to repeat your last pick. This is why a boss-gear ability or an artifact toggle has no key of its own in the Key Binds list: it is on H.
| Source | Actions on H | Count |
|---|---|---|
| Charm of Shrinking toggle, Charm of Sinking toggle, Helium Flamingo activate, Night Vision Goggles toggle, Scarf of Invisibility toggle, Universal Attractor toggle | 6 | |
| Cataclysm ability, helmet ability, chestplate ability, boots ability | 4 | |
| Zoom with goggles, see the red thread with goggles, swap hotbar, cycle the maps stored in an item display | 4 | |
| Dragon fire breath | 1 | |
| Obscura's Simple Storage | Highlight connected inventories | 1 |
L_Ender's Cataclysm and Astral Dimension run through
Sporran; see L_Ender's Cataclysm Bosses for the gear. The storage highlight is described on Storage Networks.
L and the journal#
L opens the journal, the story screen of the quest book, and the journal then opens the quest book at the right chapter. The journal also has a tab in your inventory. Enter skips a conversation line while one is on screen. Both keys can be rebound in the QuestBridge category. See The Journal for what the screen holds.
The pack also ships the quest mod's own "Open Quests" action on L. QuestBridge unbinds that one once, at a later game start, so that L belongs to the journal alone.
Shared keys at a glance#
These are the keys that carry more than one action in the fresh install.
| Key | Actions | What you get |
|---|---|---|
| H | 16 | Wheel: artifacts, Cataclysm, Twilight Forest, AdventureZ, Obscura highlight |
| / | several | Wheel: the voice chat actions |
| Middle mouse | 5 | Pick block plus four sort actions |
| Space | 3 | Jump is a hold action, so jump, Gravitite jump and Magma Wings fire together |
| P | 3 | Wheel: Social Interactions, FTB Teams, Open Parties and Claims |
| B | 3 | Wheel: backpack, terminal, Just Zoom options |
| V | 3 | Wheel: Aether invisibility, Sculk Transmitter, Quiver |
| R | 3 | Wheel: reach-around, reload shaders, Toggle Enchantments menu |
| Left Shift | 2 | Sneak and Carry fire together |
| Left Ctrl | 2 | Sprint and Soul Elytra boost fire together |
| L | 2, then 1 | Journal and "Open Quests", until the one-time unbinding has run |
| Num Plus | 2 | Wheel: Quick Waypoint, Modifier Menu |
| N | 2 | Wheel: New Waypoint, Waypoint Screen |
The middle mouse button works as a wheel in the world and fires every action while a screen is open, so inside an inventory it picks the block under the cursor and sorts together. That follows from the Polybind rules and has not been tested in play: your first middle click in the world might open a small wheel.
Mining, building and carrying#
| Key | Action | Mod |
|---|---|---|
| World 2 (hold) | Ultimine: mine connected blocks | FTB Ultimine |
| Shift + mouse wheel, or Up / Down | Cycle the Ultimine shape while the Ultimine key is held | FTB Ultimine |
| Ultimine key + sneak | Open the shape menu | FTB Ultimine |
| Shift while breaking a log | Break one log instead of the whole tree | |
| R | Toggle reach-around placement (wheel with two other actions) | Bridging Mod |
| Left Alt | Build-mode radial menu | Sophisticated Building |
| Num Plus | Modifier menu | Sophisticated Building |
| Z / Y | Undo / redo | Sophisticated Building |
| Left Shift | Carry On's carry action (block entities, animals and players); it shares the key with sneak |
The shape-cycling keys of Ultimine itself ("next shape" and "previous shape") have no key. The pack sets Ultimine to mine at most 32 blocks at a time, and FallingTree fells up to 150 logs; both are described on Mining & Everyday Tools.
The Ultimine key#
The pack puts Ultimine on the key that Minecraft lists as "World 2". That is the extra key on ISO keyboards, left of the Y or Z key (on a German keyboard it is the < key). American keyboards have no such key.
Combat and equipment#
The weapons themselves use the mouse buttons. Better Combat and Simply Swords add their extra actions without a default key.
| Key | Action | Mod |
|---|---|---|
| Left mouse button | Attack, with swing arcs and combos | |
| None | Feint (cancel an attack); toggle mining with weapons | Better Combat |
| None | Main-hand and off-hand weapon ability | |
| R | Open the Toggle Enchantments menu (wheel) | Toggle Enchantments |
| None | Accessories screen | |
| None | Equipped ender chest, selection widget, spyglass accessory | |
| H | Artifact toggles | Artifacts Remastered |
| V | Quiver (wheel) | |
| None | Tool swap, inventory interaction and upgrade toggles 1 to 5 | Sophisticated Backpacks |
Inventory, sorting and recipes#
Sorting sits on the middle mouse button: a plain click sorts in creative order, Shift by quantity, Ctrl alphabetically and Alt by raw id. Several mods answer to the same button, which is why it is a shared key above. Mouse Tweaks adds drag and scroll tweaks and needs no key. Inventory Essentials adds bulk transfers; its exact modifier keys are listed in the mod's own help.
The recipe viewer
EMI keeps its keys in its own config and not in the Controls screen:
| Key | Action in EMI |
|---|---|
| R or left click on an item | Show recipes |
| U or right click on an item | Show uses |
| A | Favourite an item |
| Ctrl+O | Hide or show the panel |
| Ctrl+F | Focus the search box |
| Backspace | Go back |
| Left click on a recipe | Craft one |
| Shift + left click on a recipe | Craft all |
Other keys: G cycles the tab of a tooltip (Simply Tooltips) and F10 opens the Presence Footsteps settings. The "Cycle Tooltip Tab" key only matters for tooltips that have several tabs.
Maps, teams and voice chat#
| Key | Action | Mod |
|---|---|---|
| M | Open the world map | Xaero's World Map |
| N | New waypoint, or the waypoint screen (wheel) | Xaero's Minimap |
| Num Plus | Quick waypoint (wheel with the Modifier Menu) | Xaero's Minimap |
| Up / Down | Minimap zoom in / out | Xaero's Minimap |
| Left / Right | Enlarge the minimap / toggle it | Xaero's Minimap |
| ] | Open the world map settings | Xaero's World Map |
| P | Social interactions, teams screen or parties and claims menu (wheel) | Minecraft, FTB Teams, Open Parties and Claims |
| Tab | Player list | Minecraft |
Maps are explained on Maps & Navigation, and parties and claims on Claims & Parties.
Simple Voice Chat puts its menu, group, settings, volume, mute, disable and hide-icons actions on the / wheel. If you use push to talk, bind a key of your own for it in Key Binds, because a wheel pick is a single press and cannot be held. Voice chat is covered in Multiplayer.
Just Zoom uses C (hold) to zoom, and mouse side buttons 9 and 10 zoom in and out. Those two buttons are therefore not free for other uses.
Dimension gear and other keys#
| Key | Action | Mod |
|---|---|---|
| I | Open or close the Aether accessories inventory | |
| V | Toggle invisibility (wheel) | The Aether |
| Space | Activate Gravitite jump; fly using Magma Wings | The Aether, |
| Left Ctrl | Boost the Soul Elytra | |
| V | Use the Sculk Transmitter (wheel) | Deeper and Darker |
| H | Dragon fire breath | AdventureZ |
| None | Dragon fly down | AdventureZ |
| F5 | Change the camera perspective | Minecraft |
| F2, F11 | Screenshot; full screen | Minecraft |
| O | Shader pack selection screen | Iris |
Keyboard layouts#
Key ids in the pack follow US key positions. The game shows the label of your own layout in the Controls screen. These translations come from the naming of the input library and were not tested on a German keyboard.
| Key id | US keyboard | German (QWERTZ) keyboard |
|---|---|---|
| World 2 | does not exist | the extra key left of Y: < > | |
| Slash | / | the same physical key, labelled - |
| Right bracket | ] | the same physical key, labelled + |
| Y and Z | Y, Z | the two physical keys swap their labels |
Letters, digits, F-keys, arrows, Enter and Tab are the same on both layouts, apart from Y and Z. The right Alt key of a German keyboard is AltGr.
Unbound by default#
Some actions exist but have no default key. Bind any of them in Key Binds. The more useful ones are the accessories screen, the Better Combat feint, the Simply Swords weapon abilities, the Ultimine shape keys, the backpack upgrade toggles, the Jade overlay toggles, Mod Menu, the inventory restock and dump actions, Entity Culling and Dynamic FPS toggles, and the vanilla smooth camera and spectator outline.
Notes#
- The pack applies its keys through Polybind on the first launch and keeps a one-time backup of your old options as
options.txt.polybind-backup. - Undo and redo in the build mod are on Z and Y. Whether Ctrl must be held was not confirmed, and the exact modifier combinations of Inventory Essentials were not confirmed either.
- Jade has no key by default in this pack.
- Earlier versions of this wiki listed keys for Litematica. Litematica is not installed in the pack, so those keys are gone.
