Nytheria builds every new world from many worldgen mods at once. The Overworld gets new terrain and a huge biome list, the Nether and the End get their own generators, and six more dimensions bring biome sets of their own. This page is the hub for the world topic: it explains who does what, gives the biome and structure numbers with their counting rules, and shows how to find a place you want.

Overview#

Nytheria has over 350 biomes. The exact figure is 353 biomes that can generate in a fresh world of this pack, and about 290 of them come from mods. The counting rule is "biomes that can generate in a fresh world", across the Overworld, the Nether, the End and the six extra dimensions. The pack also has over 900 structures. The exact figure is 952 structures a world can place, with variants counted separately. The full lists are on Biomes and Structures & Dungeons.

New worlds use the BetterX world type. The pack forces it as the default (force_default_world_preset is true), so you do not have to pick it on the world screen. BetterX comes from WorldWeaver: Remastered and BCLib: Remastered, both made for Nytheria. It hosts the Nether and End generators, but it does not generate the Overworld.

Each layer of the world is built by different mods:

The mods behind it#

The pack separates the work in four groups. Engines and libraries do not add landscape themselves; they make the other mods work together.

GroupModsWhat they do in Nytheria
EnginesWorldWeaver: Remastered, BCLib: RemasteredThe BetterX world type, and the Nether and End biome sources
Biome librariesTerraBlender (Fabric), LithostitchedAdd modded biomes to the vanilla Overworld; Lithostitched injects Terralith's list
Structure toolsCristel Lib, Sparse Structures, Structure EssentialsPer-mod structure toggles and spacing; global spreading; minimum distance
Data loadingPaxi (Fabric)Loads the pack's own data packs, such as the worldgen fixes

Version numbers are not listed here; the mod list has the current ones. Speed-only mods such as Noisium and C2ME make worldgen faster but do not change what generates.

The Overworld#

The Overworld is not a BetterX world. It runs on the vanilla noise generator, and Terralith's biomes are injected through Lithostitched and TerraBlender. Terralith also changes the terrain itself: it modifies the vanilla noise settings (the vertical noise size drops from 2 to 1 and a new noise router is used), and it lowers the canyon carver probability from 0.01 to 0.003.

Oh The Biomes We've Gone adds a second large biome set through TerraBlender, with three regions of equal weight. Smaller mods add rivers, caves and special biomes: Climate Rivers, Galosphere, YUNG's Cave Biomes (Fabric), Clutter and Vanilla Backport (Pale Garden and sulfur caves). Geophilic gives 29 vanilla biomes a gentler overhaul without adding new biomes.

Terralith keeps its Skylands module on, so four sky-island biomes can appear. Its custom structures, including mage towers and fortified villages, are on as well. One side effect matters for miners: the pack turns off Terralith's vanilla_stone_gen option, so there are no granite, diorite or andesite blobs underground. More in Caves, Ores & the Underground.

The Nether and the End#

The Nether uses the BetterX generator with BetterNether: Remastered biomes (22) and Incendium biomes (8). Eternal Nether adds three structures. In total the Nether has 35 biomes: 5 vanilla and 30 modded. Details are on The Nether.

The End uses the BetterX generator with BetterEnd: Remastered biomes (25), Nullscape biomes (3) and the five vanilla End biomes, for 33 in total. YUNG's Better End Island (Fabric) rebuilds the main island and its central tower. The main island still holds the Ender Dragon. See The End and The Ender Dragon.

The six extra dimensions#

Five mods add the other six dimensions, and each has its own world generator. They add 71 biomes between them: the Aether 4, the Otherside 4, Eternal Starlight 23, the Twilight Forest 22, and the Astral Dimension with Setback 18. See Dimensions for all nine and how to enter them.

Numbers at a glance#

The table counts biomes that can generate in a fresh world of this pack and structures a world can place (variants counted separately). Dimensions are in the order of the dimension list; the structure column counts a structure once per dimension its biomes belong to, so six structures are counted twice and the column adds up to slightly more than 952.

DimensionBiomesOf which moddedPlaceable structures
Overworld214161668
Nether3530150

The Aether445
The Otherside443
Eternal Starlight23233
The Twilight Forest222220
Astral Dimension and Setback181835
Total353290952

Of the 952 placeable structures, 926 come from mods and 26 are vanilla. The pack ships 993 structure definitions in all; 41 of them never generate (31 switched off by config, 5 that no structure set uses and 5 whose biomes are not in the pack). That is why the page says "over 900" and not "almost 1,000".

Settings that shape the world#

These are the pack's own values, from the config files. You do not need to change any of them.

Counting rules#

A biome counts when it exists in the pack, is wired into the biome source of a dimension that exists in a fresh world, and is not disabled. Sub-biomes such as edge, terrace, river and cave variants count, because each has its own id and a biome source places it. Three things do not count: the vanilla the_void biome, a technical TerraBlender placeholder, and the switched-off eroded_borealis. Biomes that mods only redefine under vanilla names (35 by Terralith, 29 by Geophilic, 5 by Incendium, 5 by Nullscape) add nothing to the count. Vanilla Backport adds two biomes under the minecraft: name, Pale Garden and sulfur caves; these are counted as modded.

A structure counts as placeable when a structure set (or a confirmed code path) places it, the pack has not switched it off, and at least one biome it can spawn in exists. The 51 mod namespaces behind the 926 modded structures live in 54 jars, which is why the pack says "dozens of structure mods".

Structure spacing and rarity#

Structures sit at their normal spacing. The pack's structure placement files match each mod's own defaults for spacing, separation and frequency, and the vanilla placement settings equal vanilla 1.21.1. Three settings shape how often you meet structures:

  • Sparse Structures has a global spread factor of 1.0, which means no change. Only woodland mansions are spread twice as far apart.
  • Structure Essentials keeps structures at least 32 blocks apart.
  • Moog's structure mods use a frequency multiplier of 1.0 with no structure turned off.

The pack does switch some structures off. 31 structure definitions are off by config: eight vanilla ones that YUNG's mods replace, and 23 more from two mods (Repurposed Structures and Dungeons and Taverns). The list and the reasons are on Structures & Dungeons.

Finding what you want#

Nature's Compass is the biome finder. Craft it from saplings, logs and a compass (SLS / LCL / SLS), pick a biome in its screen and it points you to the nearest one. In Nytheria it costs no XP and never breaks. maxNextSearches is 25, coordinates are shown and no biome is blacklisted. Teleporting with it only works for creative or operator players.

Other helpers:

  • The minimap and world map show where you have been; see Maps & Navigation.
  • Wild waystones generate about every 25 chunks, but only in the Overworld, the Nether and the End; see Waystones.
  • Quest chapters send you to a number of biomes and structures; see below.

In the quest book#

Part 3, The Road, has a chapter called Ruins and Rumours. It sends you to villages, structures from several mods (including a Terralith mage tower) and five biomes (mountain, badlands, jungle, savanna and taiga). Part 4, The Deep, has Stone That Remembers, which asks you to find the Galosphere cave biomes.
