Dimensions
Nytheria has 9 dimensions in 8 realms. See how to reach each one, which blocks open the portals, where beds and respawn anchors work, and which quest chapters cover them.
Nytheria has 9 dimensions in 8 realms: the three Vanilla dimensions and six that mods add. This page is the overview. It shows how to open every portal, where beds and respawn anchors work, how big each dimension is and which of them the quest book covers. Each dimension has its own page with the details.
Overview#
A dimension here means one entry in the dimension list of a freshly generated world: three Vanilla ones (Overworld, Nether, End) and six modded ones. Five mods supply those six. The Astral Dimension mod adds two of them, the Astral Dimension itself and Setback, and the pack counts them as one realm. That is why the public figure is 9 dimensions in 8 realms.
Every dimension except the Overworld has its own portal. You start in the Overworld, and it is also where you find most of the portal ingredients: strongholds hold the End portal, Ancient Cities are home to the Warden and to the Reinforced Deepslate of the Otherside frame, and Portal Ruins lead to Eternal Starlight. Any pool of water with plants around it can become a Twilight Forest portal.
| Dimension | Added by | Frame | Activation | Quest chapters |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| The Overworld | Vanilla, with Terralith and Oh The Biomes We've Gone for biomes | - | - | many |
| The Nether | Vanilla portal, Better Nether Remastered generator | Obsidian | Flint and steel | The Air Burns, Forge and Gauntlet |
| The End | Vanilla portal, Better End Remastered generator | End portal frame | End Remastered eyes | Sixteen Lanterns, The Far Shore, Past the Last Island |
| The Aether | The Aether | Glowstone | Water poured into the frame | A Door of Water and Light, Three Locked Dungeons |
| The Otherside | Deeper and Darker | Reinforced Deepslate | Heart of the Deep | Below the Bedrock, The City That Listens |
| Eternal Starlight | Eternal Starlight | Chiseled Voidstone | Orb of Prophecy | The Gate That Waits, Sky of a Million Stars, Forge, Garden and Frost |
| The Twilight Forest | The Twilight Forest (native Fabric port) | Pool of water with plants | A thrown diamond | none |
| Astral Dimension | Astral Dimension (through Sporran) | Glowing Obsidian | Glint and Steel | none |
| Setback | Astral Dimension (through Sporran) | Gloomy Obsidian | Nanta Star | none |
The quest book covers six of the nine dimensions. It has no quests for the Twilight Forest, the Astral Dimension or Setback.
The mods behind it#
Two mods run through
Sporran, the compatibility layer that lets the pack load NeoForge mods on Fabric: Astral Dimension, which adds the Astral Dimension and Setback, and L_Ender's Cataclysm, which adds structures and bosses to the Overworld, Nether and End but no dimension of its own. The Twilight Forest is a native Fabric port and does not use Sporran.
| Mod | What it adds | In Nytheria |
|---|---|---|
| The Aether | Glowstone frame, water to light it | |
| The Otherside | Reinforced Deepslate frame, lit with the Heart of the Deep | |
| Eternal Starlight | Chiseled Voidstone frame, lit with the Orb of Prophecy | |
| The Twilight Forest | Water pool portal, no frame block | |
| Astral Dimension and Setback | Two portals with their own frame blocks, runs through Sporran | |
| The Nether and End generators | Replace the Vanilla Nether and End terrain and biomes |
Two more mods change how you move between dimensions without adding one.
End Remastered [NeoForge/Fabric] replaces the Eye of Ender with 16 eye types for the End portal.
Waystones lets you travel between dimensions.
Each dimension in brief#
The Overworld#
You start here. Terralith and Oh The Biomes We've Gone supply most of its 214 biomes, and the pack uses the Vanilla noise generator rather than BetterX. Beds work and respawn anchors do not. See The Overworld.
The Nether#
A Vanilla obsidian portal leads to a BetterX Nether built from Better Nether Remastered, Incendium and Eternal Nether. It has 35 biomes and 150 structures, and it is the first of the dimensions where a respawn anchor works. See The Nether.
The End#
The End portal in a stronghold takes End Remastered eyes: 16 eye types exist and any 12 fill the frame. Vanilla Eyes of Ender cannot be used. The main island is rebuilt, and the dragon has 600 HP according to the pack's data. See The End.
The Aether#
You build a frame of glowstone and pour water into it. On arrival the pack gives you starting loot, a Book of Lore and Golden Parachutes. The Aether has four biomes and three locked dungeons, guarded by the Slider, the Valkyrie Queen and the Sun Spirit. Beds work and respawn anchors do not. See The Aether.
The Otherside#
Deeper and Darker's dimension has no sky, and its time is fixed at tick 18000. The frame is Reinforced Deepslate, lit by right-clicking it with the Heart of the Deep, which Wardens drop. Its four biomes are the Deeplands, Echoing Forest, Blooming Caverns and Overcast Columns, and its boss is the Stalker. See The Otherside.
Eternal Starlight#
The portal starts at one of five kinds of Portal Ruins in the Overworld. A frame of Chiseled Voidstone takes the Orb of Prophecy, which you craft from five blue starlight crystal shards and four glass. The Gatekeeper guards the way in. Both beds and respawn anchors work here, and the dimension has 23 biomes and four bosses with a boss bar. See Eternal Starlight.
The Twilight Forest#
A pool of water, plants around it and a thrown diamond open this native Fabric dimension. It has 22 biomes, no quests and eight bosses that you meet in a chain. See The Twilight Forest.
The Astral Dimension#
Mr.Sculk's mod, run through Sporran, adds this dimension and a second one. The frame is Glowing Obsidian and the key is Glint and Steel. It has six bosses with a boss bar. Respawn anchors work here but beds do not. See Astral Dimension & Setback.
Setback#
The second Astral mod dimension uses a Gloomy Obsidian frame and a Nanta Star. Neither beds nor anchors work in it. See Astral Dimension & Setback.
Beds, respawn anchors and time#
Beds and respawn anchors do not work everywhere, and the two lists are not the same. Beds work in the Overworld, Aether, Otherside, Eternal Starlight and Twilight Forest. They do not work in the Nether, the End, the Astral Dimension or Setback. Respawn anchors work only in the Nether, Eternal Starlight and the Astral Dimension. They do not work in the Overworld.
| Dimension | Beds work | Respawn anchors work | Fixed time (tick) | Height (min Y / height) | |:--|:-:|:-:|:-:|:-:| | Overworld | yes | no | none | -64 / 384 | | Nether | no | yes | 18000 | 0 / 256 | | End | no | no | 6000 | 0 / 256 | | Aether | yes | no | none | 0 / 256 | | Otherside | yes | no | 18000 | 0 / 128 | | Eternal Starlight | yes | yes | 12900 | -64 / 384 | | Twilight Forest | yes | no | 13000 | -32 / 288 | | Astral Dimension | no | yes | none | -64 / 384 | | Setback | no | no | none | 32 / 384 |
How big each dimension is#
The table counts what the data files allow, not what you will meet in one session. Biomes are those that can generate in a fresh world of this pack. Structures are the structures a world can place, with variants counted separately. Six structures count in two dimensions, so the structure column does not add up to the pack total of 952.
| Dimension | Biomes | Structures | Mob types of the dimension mod |
|---|---|---|---|
| Overworld | 214 | 668 | - |
| Nether | 35 | 150 | - |
| End | 33 | 74 | - |
| The Aether | 4 | 5 | 21 |
| The Otherside | 4 | 3 | 8 |
| Eternal Starlight | 23 | 3 | 33 |
| The Twilight Forest | 22 | 20 | 58 |
| Astral Dimension and Setback | 18 (10 + 8) | 35 | 82 |
The mob column counts all mob types the dimension mod registers, bosses included, and not only the ones that live in the dimension. The Overworld, Nether and End draw their creatures from many mods, so they have no single figure. See Creatures of the Nether, End and Realms for the full lists.
Travelling between dimensions#
Waystones work across dimensions. A trip to a waystone in another dimension costs 27 experience points, which is 27 points and not 27 levels. Pets and leashed animals travel with you. Wild waystones generate only in the Overworld, the Nether and the End, so the other dimensions have none unless you build your own.
Claims are not limited to the Overworld either: every dimension can be claimed. The Vanilla dimensions also differ in one detail of the grave system: the grave block sits on cobblestone in the Overworld, soul soil in the Nether and end stone in the End.
Levels that are not dimensions#
Supplementaries creates two empty test levels in a save folder. They are not registered dimensions and do not count. Structure mods such as Cataclysm and Repurposed Structures add structures to the Overworld, Nether and End but no dimensions. The mod catalogue also files eight jars under the category "Dimensions". Only five of them register a dimension; End Remastered, Enhanced Extinguishing and Protect Your Moa do not.
Changed from the old wiki#
Earlier versions of this wiki said the pack has six dimensions. In the current pack there are 9 dimensions in 8 realms, because the Twilight Forest and the Astral Dimension were added. They also said that respawn anchors work in the Overworld. They do not. And they said the Twilight Forest runs through Sporran. It is a native Fabric port.
In the quest book#
The book covers the Overworld, Nether, End, Aether, Otherside and Eternal Starlight. The portal chapters are The Air Burns (Nether), The Far Shore (End), A Door of Water and Light (Aether), Below the Bedrock (Otherside) and The Gate That Waits (Eternal Starlight). The book gates its chapters, but it does not lock the dimensions themselves. Only the mods' own recipes and keys do that. So you can open the Nether before you finish Stone That Remembers, for example.
See Chapter Gates & Book Order for the order in which chapters unlock.
