Exploration & Travel
How to get around Nytheria - Waystones, teleport commands, maps, the biome compass, elytra, rings, mounts and portals - and which settings the pack changes from the mods' defaults.
Travel in Nytheria is a mix of walking, shrines you activate once, a handful of teleport commands and a few late-game flight items. This page is the hub for the topic: it explains how the parts fit together and sends you to Waystones and Maps & Navigation for the details.
Overview#
Most trips start on foot. The quest book rewards walking: The Marked Road asks for 1,000 blocks and later has a capstone that wants a Nature's Compass and 3,000 blocks walked. Once you have a few Waystones placed, you rarely walk the same road twice, because you pay a few points of experience and arrive at the shrine of your choice.
On a server there are also teleport commands, such as /home, /back and /tpa, and a random teleport. They have cooldowns and a short warm-up. The pack sets no dimension blacklist for them, with one exception: the random teleport does not work in the End. Flying and speed items come from other mods and need late-game ingredients.
Three rules of thumb cover most of it. Waystone trips are paid in experience points, never in levels. Commands cost nothing but time. Maps and the biome compass are free to use and never wear out.
Costs at a glance#
| Way to travel | Costs | Limits |
|---|---|---|
| Walking and mounts | nothing | your own time |
| Waystone, Warp Stone, sharestone | about 1 XP point per 100 blocks, at most 27 points, 27 points between dimensions | free to a global waystone and to a Fleeting Memorial |
| Scrolls and Warp Plates | no experience | the pack's cost rule makes both free |
/home, /spawn, /playerspawn, /tpa | nothing | 10 s cooldown, 3 s warm-up |
/back | nothing | 30 s cooldown, 3 s warm-up |
/rtp | nothing | 600 s cooldown, 3 s warm-up |
The mods behind it#
Adds waystones and other teleport blocks and items: activate waystones as you explore, then travel between them for experience.
Adds a minimap with nearby terrain, players, mobs and items, plus waypoints and a death waypoint.
Adds a full-screen world map that fills in as you explore and works with Xaero's Minimap waypoints and claims.
Navrelis' shared map: every explored tile of Xaero's World Map is merged on the server and sent to all players.
A compass that searches for any biome, including modded ones, and shows its coordinates and distance.
Adds everyday commands for homes, teleporting and convenience: /sethome, /home, /back, /spawn, /tpa, /rtp, /warp and more.
A utility mod with magnets, rings, gliders, elevators, sleeping bags, conveyor belts, entangled storage, lassos, trash cans, spikes and XP tools.
Adds an extra slot for the elytra (shown in the Accessories screen), so it can be worn together with a chestplate.
Ensures Nether portals link back to the correct destination when travelling back and forth in multiplayer.
| Mod | What it adds | In Nytheria |
|---|---|---|
| Waystones | shrines, scrolls and plates for teleporting | costs in XP points, wild waystones in three dimensions |
| Xaero's Minimap and World Map | maps, radar and waypoints | shared server map, Waystones and claims on the map |
| Nature's Compass | a compass that finds biomes | free to use and never breaks |
| FTB Essentials | home, back, spawn, rtp and tpa commands | 3 homes, rtp up to 17,500 blocks |
| Kibe Utilities | elevators, gliders, rings, sleeping bags | gliders never break, the Angel Ring has a custom recipe |
| Elytra Slot | wear an elytra next to a chestplate | the elytra goes in the cape slot |
| NetherPortalFix | Nether portals link back correctly | return trips land at the portal you came from |
Waystones#
Waystones are the backbone of the pack's travel. You craft a Warp Stone, place a waystone at home and activate others as you find them. The trip costs experience points, not levels, and every 100 blocks cost only about one point, so short hops are almost free. The price stops growing at 27 points, which is also the flat price of a change of dimension. Details, recipes and numbers are on the Waystones page.
Teleport commands#
FTB Essentials (Forge & Fabric) gives every player a set of teleport commands. The pack changes the mod defaults in a few places: you may keep 3 homes (the mod default is 1), the random teleport reaches at most 17,500 blocks from spawn (the mod default is 25,000), and every command waits 3 seconds before it fires. The ender chest command is turned off.
| Command | What it does | Cooldown | Limits |
|---|---|---|---|
/sethome, /home, /delhome, /listhomes | save and use homes | 10 s | max 3 homes |
/back | return to your previous position | 30 s | last 10 positions; works after any teleport |
/spawn | go to world spawn | 10 s | - |
/playerspawn | go to your respawn point | 10 s | - |
/rtp | random teleport | 600 s | 500 to 17,500 blocks from spawn, up to 100 tries, not in the End |
/tpa, /tpahere, /tpaccept, /tpdeny | request a teleport to or from a player | 10 s | - |
/warp, /listwarps | use server warps | 10 s | warps exist only after an admin makes one |
The shipped ranks do not change any of these limits: homes, claims, teleports and cooldowns are the same for every player. Teleports have no dimension blacklist in the pack config. The full command reference is on Commands.
Flying, gliding and moving fast#
Flight and fast movement come from several separate mods.
Elytra Slot lets you wear an elytra in its own (cape) slot and keep a chestplate on.
Accessorify also makes a vanilla elytra an accessory. Elytra in End cities hang in item frames that
Lootr Remastered turns into per-player loot, so each player gets his own.
Kibe Utilities adds Gliders in 16 colours that never break, Elevators in 16 colours and Sleeping Bags in 16 colours. According to the mod's description, an Elevator takes you to another elevator above or below it, and a Sleeping Bag lets you sleep anywhere without changing your bed spawn point.- Angel Ring is a Kibe ring with a custom recipe in Nytheria. It needs Heart of the Deep, Elytra Crystalite, a Blackstone Golem Heart, a Goblin Tuned Elytra, a Diamond Ring, an Armored Elytra, a Heart of the Sea, a Soul Elytra and a Nether Star. The Goblin Tuned Elytra comes from the legendary trade of a
Goblin Trader: one elytra plus 24 to 36 emeralds, and the trade can be made once.
Artifacts Remastered has items for speed and jumping: Running Shoes (+40 % sprint speed), Cloud in a Bottle (double jump), Bunny Hoppers (+0.4 jump strength), Flippers (+70 % swim speed) and the Cowboy Hat (+40 % mount speed).
Kibe also limits you to one active ring at a time (maxRingsPerPlayer is 1), so you must choose between the Angel Ring and the other rings (Diamond, Magma, Water and Light).
The other ingredients come from other mods: Heart of the Deep from Deeper and Darker, Elytra Crystalite and the Armored Elytra from Better End Remastered, the Soul Elytra from Deeper and Darker, and the Blackstone Golem Heart from AdventureZ. That is why the ring is a late-game item.
Mounts and portals#
The Aether has its own mounts: the Moa, the Phyg and the Flying Cow can be ridden with a saddle, and a Nature Staff commands tamed Moas. The Swet Cape lets you ride Swets. The quest Above the Sky rewards 2 golden parachutes.
Horse Expert shows the speed, jump and health of tamed horses,
Better Mount HUD shows mount health while you ride, and
BoatView360 removes the look limit in boats.
NetherPortalFix makes Nether portals link back to the portal you came from, so you can go home the way you left. The Aether quest chapter asks for 10 glowstone for its portal. For routes into the other dimensions, see Dimensions.
Where wild waystones help#
Only three realms generate wild waystones. Everywhere else you carry your own.
| Realm | Wild waystones | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Overworld | yes, one every 25 chunks, plus villages | activate what you find |
| Nether | yes | activate what you find |
| End | yes | activate what you find |
| Aether, Otherside, Eternal Starlight, Twilight Forest, Astral Dimension, Setback | none | place your own, and bring the 27 points for the trip in |
How it fits together#
A sensible order for a new player looks like this:
- Walk and map. Use the minimap and the M world map from the first day, and craft a Nature's Compass when you want a particular biome. Both cost nothing to keep.
- Place waystones. After your first Warp Stone, put one at home and one at every place you plan to come back to. Quest rewards add a Warp Stone and warp scrolls along the way.
- Add commands for convenience. Save your homes, and use
/backafter a fight or a fall. On a server,/tpamoves you to a friend. - Cross dimensions with experience in hand. A change of dimension costs 27 points through a waystone, so collect experience first.
- Go airborne late. Elytra, Kibe gliders and the Angel Ring need ingredients from several mods, and the Angel Ring also needs a legendary Goblin Trader trade.
This is a route, not a rule. Nothing in the pack forces you to use Waystones or commands, and the only thing that gates the road is the quest book, which gates chapters but never the dimensions themselves.
In the quest book#
The chapter The Marked Road in Part 1 is the travel tutorial: walk 1,000 blocks, draw a map at a cartography table, place waystones, craft a backpack and get a Nature's Compass. Its capstone gate opens Part 3, The Road, which sends you to villages, ruins, biomes and filled maps. The capstone of The Far Shore in Part 8 rewards 64 fireworks for the flight that ends that chapter.
Tips#
- Place a waystone at every base and portal, and keep Warp Scrolls for the rest.
- Save a home with
/sethomebefore a long trip, because/backreturns you to your previous position, including your death position. - Do not use
/rtpin the End, and expect to wait 10 minutes between random teleports. - Pets and leashed animals travel with you through a waystone, but the Wither does not.
- A death waypoint on the map and
/backare two ways back to your grave; see Death, Graves & Respawning.
