Nytheria keeps every vanilla mob and adds more than 450 new ones, from biome creepers and new illagers to wildlife, fish, traders and the creatures of the modded dimensions. This hub explains where they come from and how spawning works. The full lists are on Creatures of the Overworld, Creatures of the Nether, End and Realms and Animals, Pets & Mounts. Bosses have their own pages under Bosses.

Overview#

A mob type is a registered entity that is a real Mob (a vanilla Mob subclass) and has a spawn egg or an entity loot table. That covers animals, monsters, fish, golems, illagers, traders and bosses. It does not cover arrows, boats, decorations, summon effects or colour variants such as Sheepuff wool colours.

The pack has 461 modded regular mob types, fish included. Add the vanilla mobs and the bosses and you reach 582 mob types in total. In short: more than 450 new mobs, and more than 550 in total.

Boss-type creatures inside the modded total3938 have a boss bar; the 39th is Permafrost, a mini-boss on the Bosses pages

The boss count on the bosses pages follows a different rule (entities that show a boss bar, plus mini-bosses). A few creatures that you may think of as bosses, such as the Cataclysm mini-bosses, therefore appear in the regular mob numbers here.

The mods behind it#

31 mods add mob types. The table lists the biggest ones. Numbers in brackets are boss-type creatures that are already included in the count.

Mobs & BossesModClient & Server

Mods that are not installed#

Alex's Mobs, Naturalist, Mowzie's Mobs, Ice and Fire and Born in Chaos are not part of Nytheria. The wildlife role is played by WilderNature, Clutter, Ecologics, Friends & Foes, Galosphere and Tide.

Where the creatures live#

Each dimension has its own creature set. The counts below include the bosses of that mod.

Mods such as Cataclysm, AdventureZ and Clutter spread across several dimensions, so a creature of one mod may turn up in the Overworld, the Nether and the End. The detail pages sort them by where they spawn. See Dimensions for the portals.

Spawning and mob caps#

Nytheria does not change any game rule for spawning. doMobSpawning and mobGriefing keep their vanilla defaults, the default difficulty is Normal, and no data pack changes biome spawn lists.

The server mod ServerCore sets the mob caps per player: 60 for monsters, 10 for creatures (spawn interval 400), 15 for ambient mobs and 5 for axolotls and underground water creatures. Water creatures are capped at 5 and water ambient mobs at 20. The Aether has its own categories: 15 surface monsters, 5 darkness monsters, 4 sky monsters and 1 Aerwhale. Glares are capped at 15 and Rascals at 1.

When a server lags, ServerCore can lower the cap in steps (target 35 ms per tick, down to 50 % and then 30 % of the normal cap). Mobs from zombie reinforcements, portal pigmen, spawners and infested silverfish do not count against the cap. Breeding is limited to 32 animals of the same type within 64 blocks.

Stopping spawns#

Magnum Torches stop natural spawns only. The diamond torch covers an ellipsoid of 2 x 1 chunks and the emerald torch a cuboid of 4 x 2 chunks. Spawners, structure spawns and reinforcements are not blocked. Kibe's Cursed Earth has its own cap of 25.

Kinds of creatures#

Hostile. The Overworld gets 16 biome creepers, four zombie and skeleton variants (Gelid, Murk, Thicket and Verdant), 11 new illagers from Illager Invasion and four more from It Takes a Pillage. Underground, Galosphere and YUNG's Cave Biomes add cave creatures. The modded dimensions bring their own monsters, from Twilight Forest trolls to the Astral Dimension's void creatures.

Wildlife. WilderNature adds 16 animals, Clutter 14, Meadow two cattle types, and Ecologics a Coconut Crab, a Penguin and a Squirrel. Friends & Foes contributes the Mob-vote creatures such as the Crab, Glare and Moobloom. WilderNature also replaces some vanilla animals in the savanna, swamp, jungle and forest biomes; which ones is not confirmed yet.

Fish. Tide adds 102 fish. They are mobs in the water that you can put in a bucket, and 74 of them have a natural spawn setting. The other 28, such as the Alpha Fish and the Shadow Shark, have no spawn setting of that kind, and where they appear was not checked. See Fishing with Tide.

Traders. Two Goblin Traders wander the Overworld, Vinery adds a Wandering Winemaker with a Mule, and Supplementaries adds the Red Merchant. Goblin Traders are neutral.

Handling and farming mobs#

Carry On lets you pick up animals, but not hostile mobs (pickupHostileMobs is off). Mob Grindworks, made for the pack, adds the Mob Masher, a redstone-powered block whose kills count as player kills. Artifacts Remastered adds the Beastmaster's Brace, which makes tamed pets deal more and take less damage, and Kitty Slippers, which make cats and ocelots always friendly. Pets and mounts are covered on Animals, Pets & Mounts.

Block damage#

Creeper Overhaul's 16 creepers destroy blocks, as the vanilla creeper does. Friends & Foes keeps Glare griefing switched on, and AdventureZ Orcs are allowed to steal. Cataclysm bosses such as Ender Guardian, Ignis and Scylla ignore the mob-griefing rule altogether; the Ender Golem, Kobolediator and Clawdian do not.

In the quest book#

Several chapters send you to creatures. Bells in the Mist asks you to see a Goblin Trader and to face illagers from Illager Invasion. Stone That Remembers covers Galosphere's caves and its Berserker. In the Aether chapter you hatch a Moa egg and kill Zephyrs. The kill tasks of the book, 35 in total, ask for hostile mobs and bosses.

Changed from the old wiki#

Earlier versions of this wiki put the Vein Goblin Trader in the Nether and listed a camel in Ecologics. In the current pack both Goblin Traders spawn in the Overworld, and Ecologics has no camel (Coconut Crab, Penguin and Squirrel only). The mob totals were also recounted: 461 regular modded types, not 423 or 600.
