These are the questions players ask most about Nytheria, with short answers and a link to the page that holds the detail. Fixes for problems that already happened, such as a crash or a key that does nothing, are on Troubleshooting. If your question is not here, use the search (Ctrl+K) or ask on the Nytheria Discord.
Install and updates#
What do I need to play Nytheria?#
Minecraft Java Edition with the CurseForge app. The pack runs on Minecraft 1.21.1 with Fabric Loader 0.19.5 and Java 21, and the app installs all of it for you. Steps are on Installation.
How much memory should I give the game?#
Set the slider to 10 GB (10,240 MB). Below 8 GB (8,192 MB) the pack is not supported. The CurseForge app does not read the pack's memory file, so you set the value yourself in the profile options. See Installation.
Do I need the Java arguments?#
No, they are optional. The pack ships a tuned line that reduces long pauses, and you paste it into the additional arguments field of the profile yourself. Do not add -Xmx or -Xms to it, because the memory slider sets those. The line is on Installation.
Why is the first start slow?#
The pack loads several hundred mods, and
Sporran remaps its four NeoForge jars once, which adds roughly 30 to 40 seconds the first time. Later starts are faster.
What is Sporran, and why does the pack need it?#
Sporran is Navrelis's fork of Kilt, made by the Sporran Team. It lets four NeoForge jars run on Fabric: L_Ender's Cataclysm, the Astral Dimension, Curios API and Lionfish API. The Twilight Forest is a native Fabric port and does not use it. See Made for Nytheria and Credits.
Will an update reset my settings?#
No. The pack applies its defaults only to settings you never changed, and a later update only reaches settings that are still untouched. Copy your worlds from the saves folder before every update anyway. See Installation.
Can I add or remove mods?#
You can, but nobody can help with the result. Removing a mod that adds blocks, creatures, biomes or structures leaves holes in an existing world, so test changes on a copy. A pack update can also undo them. See Installation.
Performance#
Can my PC run Nytheria?#
The pack needs 8 GB of memory for the game at the very least and recommends 10 GB, so a PC with 16 GB of RAM is the practical starting point. If your PC is weaker, lower the render distance and switch shaders off. See Performance & Shaders.
Are shaders on by default?#
No. The pack starts with shaders off and preselects the Complementary Unbound plus Euphoria Patches preset, so one press of K starts them. O opens the shader screen. Three shader packs ship: BSL, Complementary Unbound and Derivative. See Performance & Shaders.
How do I get more frames per second?#
Turn shaders off first, then lower the render distance. The pack also includes
Sodium,
TickMender and dozens of other performance mods. The steps in order are on Performance & Shaders.
Keys and controls#
What does the H key do?#
H is the shared ability key. Artifacts, L_Ender's Cataclysm, the Twilight Forest, the dragon fire breath and the storage highlight all sit on it, 16 actions in total, and it opens a wheel when you hold it. See Controls.
Why does a wheel open when I hold a key?#
That is
Polybind. When several mods want the same key, hold it, move the mouse to the action and let go. A quick tap repeats your last pick. See Controls.
Which key opens the quest book?#
L opens the journal, the story screen of the quest book, and the journal opens the quest book at the right chapter. The journal is also a tab in your inventory. See The Journal.
Why does the slash key not open the chat?#
The pack unbinds the chat-with-command key so that / can serve voice chat. Press T to open the chat and type the slash yourself. See Controls.
Which key is Ultimine?#
The pack puts it on the key the game calls World 2, an extra key of ISO keyboards that American keyboards do not have. If you have none, search for "Ultimine" in the key binds and pick another key. See Controls.
How do I use push to talk in voice chat?#
The pack puts the voice chat actions on the / wheel. A wheel pick is one press and cannot be held, so bind a key of your own for push to talk in the key binds screen. See Controls.
How do I look up a recipe?#
Open your inventory and point at an item with
EMI: R shows how it is made and U shows what it is used for. EMI also lists mob drops and chest loot.
The quest book#
How big is the quest book?#
It has 440 quests in 27 chapters and 11 parts. The book has an eleventh, hidden part that appears when you reach it. See The Quest Book.
Are all chapters open from the start?#
No. Only the chapter One Leaf is open at the start, and every other chapter opens through a gate quest in an earlier chapter. Work you do early still counts, but a quest completes only after the quests before it. See Chapter Gates & Book Order.
Does the book lock the dimensions?#
No. The Nether, the Aether, the End and the others depend only on their own recipes and portals. The book guides you but never blocks a portal. See Progression Route.
Does a quest take my items?#
No. Item tasks only check that you carry the item, so one stack can finish many quests.
I finished a quest but got nothing. Why?#
Rewards are not paid out automatically. Open the quest and click each reward. Every player claims their own copy. See Rewards, Loot Caches & Choice Kits.
What are the hidden quests?#
65 of the 440 quests are hidden. They are drawn as octagons with lowercase titles and appear in the book only when you complete them. See The Quest Book.
Which dimensions does the quest book cover?#
Six of the nine: the Overworld, Nether, Aether, Otherside, End and Eternal Starlight. The Twilight Forest, the Astral Dimension, Setback and the Cataclysm bosses have no quests.
Is quest progress shared with friends?#
Yes, inside a team or party. Progress belongs to the team, while rewards are claimed by each player. See Multiplayer.
What are loot caches?#
They are reward crates that quests and mobs can give you. A hostile mob drops one about once in 67 kills (1.5 %), a passive animal 0.3 % of the time. The pack's loot table gives bosses a 60 % chance; which mobs count as bosses is not confirmed yet. Right-click a cache to open it. See Rewards, Loot Caches & Choice Kits.
Dimensions and travel#
How many dimensions are there?#
Nine dimensions in eight realms: the Overworld, the Nether, the End, the Aether, the Otherside, Eternal Starlight, the Twilight Forest, the Astral Dimension and Setback. The Astral Dimension and Setback count as one realm. See Dimensions.
How do I get to the Aether?#
Build a portal frame of glowstone and pour water into it. See The Aether.
How do I get to the Otherside?#
Build a frame of Reinforced Deepslate, as in an Ancient City, and light it with the Heart of the Deep. Wardens always drop the Heart. See The Otherside.
How do I get to Eternal Starlight?#
Find the Portal Ruins in the Overworld, complete the frame of chiseled voidstone and light it with the Orb of Prophecy. The Gatekeeper waits at the ruins. See Eternal Starlight.
How do I get to the Twilight Forest?#
Make a pool of water ringed with plants and throw a diamond into it. No advancement is needed. See The Twilight Forest.
How do I get to the Astral Dimension and Setback?#
The Astral Dimension needs a frame of Glowing Obsidian, lit with Glint and Steel, which is glowstone dust and an iron ingot. Setback needs a frame of Gloomy Obsidian, lit with a Nanta Star. See Astral Dimension & Setback.
Do beds and respawn anchors work everywhere?#
No. Beds work in the Overworld, the Aether, the Otherside, Eternal Starlight and the Twilight Forest. Respawn anchors do not work in the Overworld: they work only in the Nether, Eternal Starlight and the Astral Dimension. See Death, Graves & Respawning.
How much do waystones cost?#
They cost experience points, not levels. A trip in the same dimension costs about 1 point per 100 blocks, at most 27 points, and a trip to another dimension costs 27 points. Scrolls, warp plates and global waystones are free. See Waystones.
How do I find a biome?#
Craft a compass from
Nature's Compass. It costs no experience and never breaks. See Maps & Navigation.
Why can I not break a loot chest, and why does it not refill?#
Chests in structures use
Lootr Remastered, which gives every player their own loot. You can break one while you sneak, but breaking it takes the chest away from others. Chests never refill. See Per-Player Loot.
Bosses and the End#
How many bosses are there?#
Around 40 bosses with their own boss bar from ten mods, plus 15 mini-bosses. Two of the 40 cannot be met in normal play. See Bosses.
Why do Eyes of Ender not work?#
End Remastered [NeoForge/Fabric] replaces them. Vanilla Eyes of Ender can be neither thrown nor placed, and you use End Remastered eyes instead. See The End Portal & the 16 Eyes.
How many eyes does the End portal need?#
There are 16 eye types, but the portal frame has 12 sockets, and any 12 eyes fill it. A thrown eye breaks 1 time in 10. See The End Portal & the 16 Eyes.
How strong is the Ender Dragon?#
The pack sets its health to 600, three times Vanilla. It also gets new attacks, respawning crystals and extra mobs. See The Ender Dragon.
What is Boss Ultimatum?#
It punishes deaths in boss fights. From the third player it kills, every further player death restores the boss to half of its maximum health. The Ender Dragon works differently: from its second player kill, each further kill heals it by 120 HP. Cataclysm, the Twilight Forest, the Astral Dimension, Eternal Starlight, the Void Shadow, the Warden and the Elder Guardian are not covered. See Bosses.
Multiplayer#
How do I play with friends?#
Open your singleplayer world with
e4mc, which needs no port forwarding, or run a server. See Multiplayer.
How do I run a server?#
The server needs the same mod versions as the clients, Java 21, the game port 25565 on TCP and the voice chat port 24454 on UDP. The server pack can be older than the pack, so check the download page first. See Running a Server.
How does voice chat work?#
Simple Voice Chat is included. Players hear each other within 48 blocks, and whispering reaches 24 blocks. See Multiplayer.
How do I protect my base?#
Claim it with
Open Parties and Claims: Team Claims. Claims in the pack come from Open Parties and Claims with a Team Claims layer, and the pack has no FTB Chunks. A player can claim up to 500 chunks, and a team has its own pool on top of that. Player-versus-player combat is allowed inside claims. See Claims & Parties.
Do we see the same map?#
On a server, yes.
Unified Xaero Worldmap shares explored map tiles between all players. See Maps & Navigation.
Death and survival#
I died. Where are my items?#
In a grave where you died. It holds your items and your experience. Right-click it to collect everything. It never times out, and other players can rob it after 24 hours. /back takes you to your death position. See Death, Graves & Respawning.
Is there a penalty for dying?#
Yes. Every death except one caused by another player or a command starts a penalty: 50 % more hunger for 5 active minutes and 30 % less damage dealt for 5 minutes of fighting. See Death, Graves & Respawning.
Why do I get hungry so slowly?#
HungerDial cuts hunger drain by 35 %. Food values are unchanged. See Farming & Cooking.
Is the difficulty the same for everyone?#
No.
Player Difficulty gives every player their own multiplier, from 1.00 up to 2.50, based on play time, kills and gear. /scaling shows yours. See Difficulty & Player Scaling.
