Quest Book
The Quest Book
How Nytheria's quest book works - 440 quests in 27 chapters and 11 parts, chapter gates, hidden and optional quests, rewards, the journal key and team rules.
The quest book is Nytheria's story and its guide through the pack: 440 quests in 27 chapters, 11 parts, built on
FTB Quests (Fabric). This page explains how the book works and how to read it. It does not solve individual quests. Ten of the parts have their own pages, and the book has an eleventh, hidden part that appears when you reach it.
Overview#
A part is a group of chapters, a chapter is a map of quests, and a quest has one or more tasks and usually pays one or more rewards. The book is written as the journal of an old traveller, the Lamplighter, and every part follows another stretch of her road. The quests ask you to do ordinary Minecraft things: cook, farm, travel, explore, fight and build.
The totals below count the whole book, including the hidden part.
| What | Count |
|---|---|
| Parts | 11 |
| Chapters | 27 |
| Quests | 440 |
| Tasks | 628 |
| Rewards | 851 |
| Hidden quests | 65 |
| Optional quests | 144 |
Of the 440 quests, 144 are optional and 296 are not. Optional quests exist for exploration and flavour. A chapter's closing quest does not ask you to finish all of them.
Opening the book#
Press L. In the pack's default setup this opens the journal, a screen added by QuestBridge. It is also a tab on top of your survival inventory. From the journal you open the quest book itself: clicking a chapter opens FTB Quests at that place. Details are on The Journal, Embers & Torn Leaves.
The pack leaves the vanilla advancements key unbound, so L is free for the journal. Open advancements from the pause menu or bind a key in the controls. The journal needs the story data to have synced from the server. If it has not, the key and the tab do nothing.
Until you have found the journal in the prologue, the journal screen shows only the torn leaf. The first quest of the whole book is Find Me, in the chapter One Leaf.
Reading the map#
Each chapter is a map. Click a quest to read it and to see its tasks and rewards. Lines between quests show which quest opens which. A quest that is still locked shows a padlock and the text "Locked: uncompleted dependencies".
The book runs in flexible progression mode. Work you do early counts: a task in a locked quest can be progressed at any time. The locked quest only completes once the quests in front of it are done. The exception is the 10 quests with a look-at task (looking at a campfire, a lantern, a creature and so on): looking does not count while the quest is locked.
Items you hand in are never consumed. Item tasks check what is in your inventory, so the same food or tool can finish many quests.
Task types#
| Task type | Count | Completes when |
|---|---|---|
| Item | 297 | the items are in your inventory (not taken) |
| Advancement | 91 | you earn the advancement |
| Structure | 56 | you stand in the structure |
| Biome | 39 | you visit the biome |
| Kill | 35 | you kill the creature the stated number of times |
| Checkmark | 21 | you click it yourself |
| Custom (QuestBridge) | 51 | a QuestBridge requirement is met |
| Stat | 16 | a Minecraft statistic reaches a value |
| Dimension | 12 | you enter the dimension |
| Observation | 10 | you look at a block or creature for a moment |
The 51 custom tasks come from
QuestBridge. 19 of them are gameplay requirements: staying near a campfire at night, ringing a bell, eating, sleeping in a village, taming an animal and a few more. The other 32 follow the story's own state, such as finding the journal. No crafting, trading, fishing or breeding requirement is used. For the look-at tasks, the pack gives no length of time; the book simply asks you to look at the thing for a moment.
Chapters unlock through gates#
The chapters are not all open from the first minute. Only One Leaf is open at the start. Each other chapter starts behind a quest in an earlier chapter, and a chain of gate quests forms the main road from Part 1 to the late game. One chapter's capstone is enough to open the next part, so you can move on without finishing every chapter of the part you are in. The full list is on Chapter Gates & Book Order.
The book never locks dimensions. The Nether, the Aether and the End are limited only by their own recipes and requirements, not by the quest book.

Hearth and Home (Part 2) is a side branch of cooking, farming, fishing and storage. Almost all of its quests are optional. Titans of Nytheria, a boss-drop collection list in Part 10, is also a side branch that opens after the journal is found.
Hidden and optional quests#
A hidden quest is invisible in the book until you complete it. Hidden quests are drawn as octagons and have lowercase titles. 65 of the 440 quests are hidden, spread over most chapters with none to four per chapter; One Leaf has none. Four of them become visible as soon as you finish one of their two tasks. Many also stay undrawn until the quests in front of them are done. The quest pages for Parts 1 to 10 give the number of hidden quests per chapter and, inside a spoiler block, how to reveal them.
A separate setting hides 50 quests until the quests in front of them are done. 42 of these are also hidden quests; the other eight are chapter openers that wait for the journal.
Rewards in short#
The book pays XP levels, items, rolls on loot tables, a choice of one item out of three, and embers, the currency of the journal. 414 of the 440 quests pay something. Rewards are not paid automatically: open the quest and click each reward. Every team member claims their own copy. Rewards, Loot Caches & Choice Kits lists every reward type, the five loot caches and the 11 choice kits.
Teams and servers#
Everyone starts in a personal team. Joining a party shares quest progress, and every QuestBridge task counts per team. Story state is per team, but the ember wallet belongs to each player. Items are never consumed, so one player's stack of food can finish several quests, and rewards stay per player.
On a server,
QuestBridge and
GeckoLib must be installed on the server and on every client. The pack also locks seven FTB Quests commands for everyone, operators included: editing_mode, locked, generate_chapter, delete_empty_reward_tables, import_reward_table_from_chest, cleanup_stale_translations and reload. The book is therefore the same for every player. See Running a Server.
The mods behind it#
Runs Nytheria's quest book, The Lamplighter's Chronicle, with chapters, tasks, rewards and progress shared by teams.
Navrelis' server-side companion for FTB Quests: it turns real actions into custom quest tasks, offers flexible quest requirements and tools for writing quests.
Lets players form teams, which other FTB mods such as FTB Quests can share progress across.
Adds small visual improvements to the FTB Quests interface.
Improves the FTB Quests kill task so kills are tracked and shared more reliably between players.
Nytheria's own colour theme and shader assets for the FTB Quests book.
FTB Quests (Fabric) 2101.1.36 provides the chapters, quests, tasks and rewards.
QuestBridge 2.0.0 turns real actions into custom tasks, adds the journal screen and carries the story systems.
FTB Teams (Fabric) handles teams and parties.
Certain Questing Additions adds visual improvements to the book.
Quests Kill Task Tweaks adjusts the kill task. Which kill gets credit for a quest is not described more closely than that.
Nytheria Questbook is the pack's own theme: dark green and gold colours, extra quest shapes and a background shader.
