This page is a suggested route through Nytheria, not a rule. It follows the order in which the quest book gates its chapters, and it adds the dimensions, bosses and gear that fit each stage. The book gates chapters, but it never locks the dimensions themselves, so you can travel in a different order if you can afford it. <!-- src: Q §7 (derived, "suggestion"; last paragraph), §1.5; IA §2.3 -->

Before you start#

The route has nine stages. It assumes you have read Getting Started and Your First Days. <!-- src: Q §7 table rows (Night 1, Early, Early-mid, Mid x2, Mid-late, Late x2, Endgame, Finale, Any time) -->

  • The book has 440 quests in 27 chapters, 11 parts. Parts 1 to 10 are described on this wiki. The book also has an eleventh, hidden part that appears when you reach it. <!-- src: Q §1.1; IA §4.1 Open -->
  • Chapters are not all open from the start. Only One Leaf is open. Every other chapter in Parts 1 to 10 starts behind a gate quest, and a team can move on without finishing every chapter of the part it is in. <!-- src: Q Changed table #32, §1.5; IA §8 #11 -->
  • Early work still counts. The book uses flexible progression, so tasks of a locked quest can be progressed early, but the quest completes only after the quests it depends on. Looking-at tasks are the exception and do not count while locked. <!-- src: Q §1.3 -->
  • Only 296 of the 440 quests are required, and one chapter capstone per part is enough to open the next part. <!-- src: Q §7 side points, §1.1 -->

The gate chain#

A chapter opens when one quest in an earlier chapter is done. The main road runs through nine gate quests, up to the one called nearly. <!-- src: Q §1.5, IA §4.1 (gate quests up to "nearly") -->

Because only one quest of each part opens the next, you can open the Nether without finishing Stone That Remembers, and you can reach the End without finishing the Aether's Gravitite quest. <!-- src: Q §1.5 "What this means" [derived] -->

Stage 1: the prologue and the first fire#

Goal: find the journal, then get wood, stone, iron and a lit fire. <!-- src: Q §7 Night 1, Early -->

Play One Leaf on the first night: light a campfire after dark with the torn leaf, follow the answer and open the chest under the fallen spruce. Then do First Fire and The Marked Road, in either order. <!-- src: Q §7, §2.1 -->

You need wood, stone, iron, a furnace and a shield, a walk of 500 blocks and then 1,000 and 3,000 blocks, waystones, a backpack and some cooking. The gate for the next part is Where She Went, which asks for a Nature's Compass and 3,000 blocks walked. <!-- src: Q §7 Early game -->

Anytime in this stage, the five Hearth and Home chapters are open for food, farms, fish and storage. They are a side branch that only needs the journal. <!-- src: Q §7, §1.5 -->

Food is part of progression in a pack like this one. A good early set is a Farmer's Delight cooking pot, a Farm & Charm pot with its crafting bowl for dough, Right Click Harvest and Universal Bone Meal for faster farming, and AppleSkin to read food values. The Hunger Dial mod already makes food last about 54 percent longer. <!-- src: GC §2 how things connect Early -->

Stage 2: the surface#

Part 3, The Road, has Ruins and Rumours and Bells in the Mist. <!-- src: Q §7 Early-mid -->

You visit villages, trade, face raids and illagers and look for dungeons and ruins. The first Lamplighter's Cache rolls appear as rewards. The gate is Bells in the Mist, which needs a bell and the Hero of the Village effect. <!-- src: Q §7 Early-mid -->

Gear stays simple here: vanilla tools, iron and diamond. The pack changes no gear recipes, so crafting works as you know it. <!-- src: GC §1 Overview (no recipe changes) -->

Stage 3: the caves#

Part 4, The Deep, has Stone That Remembers, which is an optional route, and The City That Listens. <!-- src: Q §7 Mid game: caves -->

Expect copper, deepslate and diamonds, Galosphere caves, then the Deep Dark, the Night Lich, the Void Blossom and the Warden. The gate is The Heart. <!-- src: Q §7 Mid game: caves; BM §2.1, §2.2 -->

Where the bosses sit:

  • Night Lich. A lich tower in cold Overworld biomes. 300 HP. <!-- src: BM §2.2 -->
  • Void Blossom. A cave structure under many Overworld biomes. 350 HP. <!-- src: BM §2.2 -->
  • Warden. An Ancient City, also the ones from Deeper and Darker. A mini-boss with no boss bar. It always drops the Heart of the Deep. <!-- src: BM §2.1; W §1.3 Otherside (addWardenDrops true) -->

See Bosses for the full list. <!-- src: IA §1 -->

Stage 4: the Nether#

Part 5, The Burning Road, has The Air Burns and Forge and Gauntlet. You need obsidian, a Nether portal, a fortress or bastion, the Wither, the Nether Gauntlet, netherite and a runic weapon. The gate is A Blade Worth the Trip. <!-- src: Q §7 Mid game: Nether -->

The Nether portal is the vanilla one: an obsidian frame lit with flint and steel. The quest Obsidian and Nerve asks for ten obsidian, and Through asks you to light the frame and walk in. <!-- src: W §1.2, §1.3 Nether -->

The bosses on this road are the Wither, which you summon yourself, the Nether Gauntlet (a sealed blackstone arena in any Nether biome, 250 HP) and the Blackstone Golem (a ritual with a chiseled polished blackstone holder, 600 HP). <!-- src: BM §2.1, §2.2, §2.8 -->

Netherite is the first big gear step. Past it, the pack adds Advanced Netherite with four more tiers: Netherite-Iron, -Gold, -Emerald and -Diamond. Each tier is made at a smithing table with a netherite upgrade template, and each needs the previous tier's piece. <!-- src: GC §1 Overview, Advanced Netherite -->

Stage 5: the sky#

Part 6, The Sky Above, has A Door of Water and Light and Three Locked Dungeons. The gate is The Sun Spirit. <!-- src: Q §7 Mid-late; §1.5 -->

The Aether portal is a glowstone frame with water poured into it. The quest Glowstone and Nerve asks for ten glowstone and a bucket. You will want parachutes: the quest Above the Sky offers two golden parachutes as one of its choices. <!-- src: W §1.2, §1.3 Aether; Q §4.4 What to Carry Up -->

Three locked dungeons hold three bosses: the Slider (bronze, 400 HP), the Valkyrie Queen (silver, 500 HP) and the Sun Spirit (gold, 500 HP). <!-- src: BM §2.5 -->

Stage 6: the Otherside#

Part 7, The Listening Dark, has one chapter, Below the Bedrock. The gate is Nine Days, Wearing It. <!-- src: Q §7 Late game: Otherside; §1.5 -->

You need Warden gear and a full set of warden armor. The Otherside portal is a Reinforced Deepslate frame lit with the Heart of the Deep, which Wardens always drop. The dimension has no sky and permanent night, and its boss is the Stalker, which lives in an Ancient Temple. <!-- src: Q §7 Late game: Otherside; W §1.2, §1.3 Otherside; BM §2.9 -->

Stage 7: the End#

Part 8, The Far Shore, opens three chapters side by side: Sixteen Lanterns, The Far Shore and Past the Last Island. <!-- src: Q §7 Late game: the End; §1.5 -->

You need End Remastered eyes. The pack has 16 eye types and the portal frame has 12 sockets, and any 12 of the 16 eyes fill it. Vanilla Eyes of Ender cannot be used or thrown. You then face the Ender Dragon, get elytra and explore the outer islands. The gate is Stores for the Dark. <!-- src: Q §7; BM §4 (16 eyes, 12 sockets); W §1.3 End -->

The pack sets the Ender Dragon to 600 HP, three times vanilla. Ender Dragon has the fight. <!-- src: IA §9 Ender Dragon; BM §3, Unverified 1 (wording "set to 600 by the pack") -->

The dragon's scales are used for dragon gear: a smithing recipe takes a netherite item, a Dragon Scale and a netherite upgrade template. <!-- src: GC §1 DragonLoot -->

Stage 8: Eternal Starlight#

Part 9, The Stars, has The Gate That Waits, Sky of a Million Stars and Forge, Garden and Frost. They open side by side and are the endgame content. The gate is nearly. <!-- src: Q §7 Endgame: Starlight; §1.5 -->

The portal is found at Portal Ruins in the Overworld: a chiseled voidstone frame lit with the Orb of Prophecy. The Gatekeeper guards the way in. The dimension has its own bosses: the Gatekeeper, the Starlight Golem and the Lunar Monstrosity, and the Permafrost as a mini-boss. <!-- src: W §1.3 Eternal Starlight; BM §2.6 -->

A respawn anchor works in Eternal Starlight, and so does a bed. <!-- src: W §1.5 -->

Stage 9: the last fires#

Part 10, The Last Fires, has two chapters. Titans of Nytheria is a collection list of boss drops that you can work on at any time after you have found the journal. Only one of its "Too ..." quests is required for the capstone. The Last Page is the last chapter of Part 10. <!-- src: Q §7 Finale, Any time after the journal; §1.4; IA §4.1 -->

The book also has an eleventh part, a hidden one that appears when you reach it. Nothing on this wiki describes it. <!-- src: IA §4.1 Open -->

Dimensions outside the book#

Three dimensions have no quests: the Twilight Forest, the Astral Dimension and Setback. The quest book covers six of the nine dimensions. <!-- src: W §1.2; Q §7 last paragraph -->

  • The Twilight Forest. A pool of water with plants, and a diamond thrown in. It is a native Fabric port of the mod, with eight bosses that follow an advancement order. <!-- src: W §1.3 Twilight Forest; BM §2.4 -->
  • Astral Dimension and Setback. Run through Sporran, Navrelis's fork of Kilt, the work of the Sporran Team. The Astral portal is a Glowing Obsidian frame lit with Glint and Steel, and the Setback portal is a Gloomy Obsidian frame lit with a Nanta Star. <!-- src: W §1.2, §1.3; M §3.3; M Unverified 9 -->
  • L_Ender's Cataclysm. Adds eight boss-bar bosses in the Overworld, Nether and End. It also runs through Sporran. It has no quests either. <!-- src: BM §2.3 -->

You can visit them whenever you are ready for their monsters. <!-- src: Q §7 last paragraph -->

Common problems#

  • A quest will not complete. It is still locked. Complete the quests it depends on first. <!-- src: Q §1.3 -->
  • I cannot find a dimension in the book. The Twilight Forest, the Astral Dimension and Setback have no quests. <!-- src: W §1.2 -->
  • I am too weak for the next part. Look at your gear tier and your difficulty multiplier, which grows as you fight. See Difficulty & Player Scaling. <!-- src: GC §1 Player Difficulty -->

More answers are on Troubleshooting. <!-- src: IA §2.3 -->
