Getting there#
The Aether has no portal item. Follow these steps:
- Collect 10 glowstone and a bucket. This is what the quest Glowstone and Nerve asks for.
- Build a glowstone frame in the Overworld.
- Fill a bucket with water and pour it into the frame. The portal lights up.
- Walk in.
The mod's tag for the activation item is empty, and the pack gives no free frame item. Water poured into the frame is the only trigger, read from the mod's code. The mod's blacklist keeps portals out of dungeon blocks and blue aerclouds.
The first quests of A Door of Water and Light walk you through the portal. The pack's config gives you starting loot when you enter: the Book of Lore and Golden Parachutes. Portal creation is allowed.
What you find#
The Aether has 4 biomes and 5 structures that can generate: 4 from the mod itself and 1 from Aether Villages. The quest book names three of its sights: a skyroot grove, a meadow and a large aercloud.
Settings in Nytheria#

| Beds explode | off | Beds are safe to use |
| Gloves for set abilities | required | Aether armor set abilities need gloves |
| Tall grass | generated | The Aether has tall grass |
| Holiday trees | seasonal only | Not always on |
The mod's optional data packs, Temporary Freezing and Ruined Portals, are not added automatically.
Materials and food#
The Aether adds its own ores and materials: ambrosium, zanite, gravitite, icestone and Aether dirt. A name scan of the mod's items finds 7 food-like items, among them Blue Berry, Enchanted Berry, Candy Cane and Gingerbread Man.
Loot and travel#
Aether chests are on the exclude list of Lootr Remastered's integrated loot, so their loot tables get no extra stacks from other mods. Chests are still per player (see Per-Player Loot). Wild waystones only generate in the Overworld, the Nether and the End, so the Aether has none. See Waystones for how to travel.
Death and respawn#
Beds work in the Aether, so you can set a bed spawn there. Respawn anchors do not work. If you die in the Aether without a bed, see Death, Graves & Respawning for what happens next.
Structure spacing#
All Aether structure sets keep the mod's default spacing. The pack edits none of them.
Gear and keys#
The Aether brings its own gear: gravitite, neptune, obsidian, phoenix, valkyrie and zanite armor, several tool sets, and swords such as the flaming, holy and lightning swords and the valkyrie lance. Gloves, pendants and rings are accessories with their own menu. Three Aether keys matter in play: V toggles invisibility (it sits on the shared V wheel), I opens the Aether accessories inventory, and Space activates the Gravitite Jump, sharing the key with Jump. See Controls for all keys.
Creatures and bosses#
The mod adds 21 mob types, including its 3 bosses. Ten are hostile or neutral (Aechor Plant, Cockatrice, Evil Whirlwind, Fire Minion, Mimic, Sentry, Valkyrie, Zephyr, and the Blue and Golden Swet), seven are passive (Aerbunny, Aerwhale, Flying Cow, Moa, Phyg, Sheepuff and Whirlwind) and one is summoned (Cloud Minion). Thirteen of these types appear in the biomes' spawn lists. The Mimic, Sentry, Fire Minion and Valkyrie are dungeon mobs.
The Aether has its own mob categories and caps, set by ServerCore: 15 surface monsters, 5 darkness monsters, 4 sky monsters and 1 aerwhale per player.
Mounts and pets#
The Moa, Phyg and Flying Cow are mountable animals and take a saddle. A Nature Staff commands tamed Moas, and a Swet Cape lets you ride Swets. Protect Your Moa gives Moas chests and craftable Moa Armor. See Animals, Pets & Mounts for taming in general.
The three dungeon bosses#
All three bosses use the mod's default health and are covered by Boss Ultimatum. Each guards a locked dungeon and drops the key for the next dungeon.
| Boss | Dungeon | HP | Main drops | Quest |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Slider | Bronze Dungeon | 400 | Bronze dungeon key, 7 to 9 carved stone | The Slider, A Bronze Key; in Titans of Nytheria: Too Square |
| Valkyrie Queen | Silver Dungeon | 500 | Silver dungeon key, golden sword | The Valkyrie Queen, A Silver Key; Too Proud |
| Sun Spirit | Gold Dungeon | 500 | Gold dungeon key, sun altar | The Sun Spirit, A Gold Key; Too Hot |
According to the quest text, you need 10 Victory Medals before the Valkyrie Queen fight. For more bosses, see Bosses.
Dangers and what to bring#
- Falling. The pack does not turn off falling out of the Aether into the Overworld. The entry kit includes Golden Parachutes, and the quest chapter pays more.
- Tools. Bring Aether tools, because other tools are debuffed on Aether blocks.
- Gear for the dungeons. The chapter Three Locked Dungeons asks for a cloud staff, a flaming sword and a valkyrie lance, and the first chapter expects zanite and gravitite armor.
In the quest book#
The Aether is Part 6, The Sky Above, with two chapters and 31 quests. See Part 6: The Sky Above for the full chapter text. Both chapters unlock after A Blade Worth the Trip, the gate quest in the Nether chapter Forge and Gauntlet. They run side by side.
A Door of Water and Light has 17 quests, 3 of them hidden, and starts with Four Thousand Down. You build the portal, enter the Aether and explore its biomes and structures, then make a skyroot pickaxe, find the Book of Lore and hatch a moa egg. You kill 3 zephyrs, collect 16 ambrosium and craft zanite and gravitite armor. Entering pays a choice from What to Carry Up (2 golden parachutes, golden carrots or ambrosium torches) plus 2 golden parachutes, 3 XP levels and 1 ember. The capstone, Gravitite, pays a Lamplighter's Cache roll and 5 XP levels. The chapter totals 25 XP levels and 1 ember.
Three Locked Dungeons has 14 quests, 2 of them hidden, and starts with Not With This Knee. It leads you through the bronze Slider, the silver Valkyrie Queen and the gold Sun Spirit, with the three keys, a cloud staff, a flaming sword, a valkyrie lance and finally a life shard. The three boss quests pay a Deep Road Cache and a diamond each; the Sun Spirit pays 10 XP levels, among the highest in the book. The gold key gives 2 embers. The chapter totals 32 XP levels and 3 embers.
The book runs in flexible mode. Work you do early still counts, but a quest completes only after the quests before it are done. So nothing stops you from building the Aether portal before you reach Part 6; the book simply waits for the Nether's A Blade Worth the Trip before it opens the Aether chapters. If you want the full route, read Progression Route.
Each chapter has hidden quests (3 in the first, 2 in the second). They stay invisible until you complete them, and the hidden quests of the Aether are not listed on this page. See Part 6: The Sky Above for how the book handles them.
The Sun Spirit is also the gate quest that opens Part 7: The Listening Dark, the Otherside. So you can reach the next dimension of the main road only after the Aether's last boss. See The Otherside.
